My personal victories this week (long)
As some of you know, I am nearly blind in my right eye. Because of this, I have trouble driving and didn't do it for many years. A few years ago, I started driving again out of necessity. Since then, I've driven back roads and basically around our town doing errands, driving the kids to dr's/dentist appts, etc. I avoided the highway at all costs.
Two days ago my SIL came to town via train to stay with me while Dave is in Japan. I was tempted to ask her to take a cab from the train station to our house, but I was feeling adventurous, so I got directions to the train station from Mapquest, and I set off to find it. The directions were terrible, and the kids and I got lost several times. I also need to point out that the train station is in the city...lots of one way streets, bad neighborhoods, etc.
Anyway, I managed to find it, and I was so proud of myself!
Second victory: that same day we went to my FIL's for the afternoon. My FIL was having one of his friends fix my SIL's car, and it was ready when we went to visit him. So my SIL wanted to drive her car back to my house, leaving me to drive our car back home via the highway. I was nervous, but because of my earlier victory, I was up for the challenge. I was getting anxious, but I just kept taking deep breaths, and I did it! That was only my 3rd time driving on the highway ever.
If you've read this far, thank you! I just had to share how happy I am with myself for trying new things that really do make me anxious.
