walmart disbelief
I hope that this is the right place to post this...I went to Walmart this evening and I was going to get some of the equate brand of benedryl that they have for $1.88 a box...well....they have pulled it off of the shelf...not only that, but they have replaced every allergy/cold relief product that they have with a smart card...and it is mostly used for the higher priced products. What you have to do now instead of taking the product off of the shelf & putting it in your basket...you have to take a smart card and take it to the pharmacist..they go into their back room and retrieve the product that you want. It wasn't like this last week...I am very irritated that businesses are playing "little brother"....is my area just a testing ground or have any of you seen this happening?

Some of the cold meds in our stores have been taken off the shelf b/c they are the ingredients used to make methamphetamine. I agree with you that it's a pain. Meth labs are unfortunately a real problem here.

I posted something similar a few months ago. I was buying children's and adult version cold meds and had to do two transactions because the register was programmed to only permit two per transaction.
My thought was not for nothing, but baby tylenol cold is a pretty darn small amount to be concerned with.
I don't see them putting the household chemicals used for huffing in the pharmacy or in a locked cabinet like cigarettes. Maybe that's next.
I do understand the need for some stronger controls and I didn't feel put out or anything. I was just surprised. It's just sad what the world has come to.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. It's crystal meth. That is how the underground chemists get their lab materials. By buying over the counter cold meds in larger than normal quantities.

Yep, I kind of figured that...at first, at walmart, you could not buy any more than 3 at a time, now they have taken the product that has helped me the most off of the shelf and now if I need relief, I am forced to pay more .......jerks. The Feds have been threatening to monitor/limit herbal and vitamin use...what is next...are they going to tell me that 20lbs of red meat is too much for my family????....jerks..(I wish that I could use stronger language)gggggrrrrr.

What if you go shopping after the hours that the pharmacy is open?

Well I can understand if you are buying mass quantities but a person buying one or 2 should have on the shelf access to it.
Anthony's family are farmers & are having to keep an eye on their tanks filled with anhydrous ammonia (used as fertilizer). The druggies use this stuff too. Some of them die or are severly harmed as they steal it tho as they are overcome with the gas. Take that loser. http://www.cce.cornell.edu/monroe/ag...0theft%202.htm~*Darlene*~

It's been that way here for quite a while and you are limited to a quantity of 3 per brand. It started because of all the meth labs.

I agree with Missy! What if your child and husband or SO gets sick in the middle of the night, and you run to the local Walmart? The pharmacy isn't open at that time! I guess I better make sure I keep some at home all of the time!

That's a good point. Maybe the night manager on duty is given keys to the pharmacy area and can get it out.Originally posted by Missy

They are starting to impliment(sp) that not only in Wal-Mart but drugstores and all other stores in various places, eventually it will be all over because they are a major ingredient in Meth production. I have no problem with it being a little more troublesome to get it, if it keeps drugs like meth off the streets.
