    Default Musing about shopping the sales

    Now, I was in the checkout line, having run to the grocery store for cucumbers. Of course, I picked up a few of the loss leaders.

    I bought

    2 cucumbers ....$1
    4 bell peppers ... $2
    1.46 lbs roma tomatoes ... $1.45
    2.5 lbs chuck steak .... $4.42
    marked-down bagels .... $1
    frozen stuffed shells .... $2.50
    5 packages of marked-down 'Dagwood' ham ... $0.99/pkg
    pkg Lay's chips ... $1.88

    So, everything was either on sale or markdown.

    I spent $19.19.
    And I have stuffed shells for tonight's dinner; cuke and tomato salad for tonight;
    chuck steak and peppers for tomorrow night's dinner; and
    bell peppers for stuffed peppers. (with some leftover chuck steak).
    I'll slice and freeze the bagels;
    and I'll freeze at least 2 pkgs of the 'Dagwood' ham.

    Today's lunch is the rest of the ham, the chips, and fruit.

    So, my money bought main ingredients for 3 dinners, 1 lunch, and 1 breakfast (the bagels). Plus 2 small pkgs of ham for the freezer.

    Anyway, I spent $19.19. Not counting markdowns, my 'freshvalues savings' was $11.65, or more than half of the amount I spent.

    I didn't notice what she bought, but the woman in front of me, --who, Bless her heart, was shopping with a toddler -- had her bill ring up at $129.xx But then the cashier told her, "You saved $8.xx by using your fresh values card!"

    Think about that!

    By not shopping the sales -- for whatever reason -- she spent $129 and only $8 of that was savings off the full price.

    So, my friends, keep up the cherry picking! The woman in line ahead of me is supporting our habit!

    BTW, I KNOW how hard it is to shop with a toddler. But I think I'd go while DH could watch the kids if it meant paying full price otherwise. Even $10 for a babysitter could pay for itself if she shopped the sales.

    Oh! I assume she was buying a week's worth of groceries, while I was only picking up a few things too.
