This is not normally my kind of humor (British, I need your help translating)
****Please be warned that although there are no actualy profane words in this article, it is only because they are blanked out. This is about a real town with an unfortunate name,***
British friends, what does this mean:
"British tourists have left the residents of one charming Austrian village effing and blinding by constantly stealing the signs for their oddly-named village."
What is "effing and blinding?"

It is a village that obviously must be called F***ing! and there are some of us who have a very er, retarded sense of humour
Why they felt the need to steal the signs I don't know, that is unforgivable! if it was so amusing to them, why didn' they just take pictures of the signs.
Effing and Blinding is generally used to indicate that the swearing includes a lot of the "F " word and other equally strong swear words.
That said, in Yorkshire( where I live) part of the dialect includes Bloody, as in Bloody Hell!~ Bugger, as in "Silly Bugger"and sod as in "Silly sod" as everyday words, they are not considered to be swear words
HTH?

Yes, thanks. Around here blind only refers to being unable to see....
I wonder why only now this is amusing to people. Presumably that town was called that name long before people started stealing the sign. In my circle of friends, it is still a vulgar word to use, so that may be why only now it is so funny- people used to have a bit more decorum!
