    Default Staggering Donations?

DH and I were talking about this last night - I know that it came up after 9/11, but I haven't heard anything mentioned yet with Katrina. We've decided that instead of donating right now, we're going to wait and give a set amount every month for the next 6 months or so. I know after 9/11, 3-4 months later charities still needed help but "everyone had already given." Since I know its going to take a long time to rebuild people's lives aftrer Katrina, we figured we'd stagger our donations so that we can continue to help people in the long struggle afterwards. Is anyone else going to do something similar?

Well, we can't really afford to give more that a very small amount right now anyway, or we would end up getting into financial trouble ourselves, so we are going to be donating later. In the meantime, I am doing other things I can to help that don't cost me money directly, such as the click-to-conate type things where a sponsor will donate for every click.

You are definitely right- there will be a great need later, too.

I donated today and though it wasn't a HUGE amount -- I plan to keep on donating.

I actually planned to pick a different charity every month and pledge like $50. Of course this has topped the list for now and I may not be able to move onto other things so quickly as I planned.

I have been trying to decide where to send money --- I do not want to send it to the Red Cross, so have thought maybe Habitat for Humanity or even Doctors Without Borders --- any good ideas out there?

You could try www.salvationarmyusa.org I believe is the link. Also the Humane Society is taking donations for all their rescue efforts for the animals. There's so many places that need the funds....

Since most of my current donations are going to the Honduran orphanage where my girls are coming from (so far 5 suitcases full of school supplies, clothing and shoes), I have made a small monetary donation to the red cross and offerred the space we have (we are legally able to fill one more crib here) to shareyourhome.org offerring to take in a child for 6 months. I do hope they will call about that.
