Default So what kind of creepy little critter...

...would reach up from under the step of our deck and pull down a piece of broken terra cotta pot?

I have been saving broken terra cotta pots to use as drainage in other pots, and there were two pieces on the step that skirts all the way around the lower level of our deck. I heard a noise, and as I turned around to fgure out where it was coming from. I saw the piece of terra cotta diasappear. I didn't get any closer to examine it, but I couldn't see the terra cotta piece at all. It was gone, so it must be a the very least all the way under the step.

As many of you know, we had rats not too long ago due to the stable behind our house, but thought they were gone as they are no longer taking the bait and we have seen no sign of them. Do you think it could be a rat?

And I should also mention that I found a dead rabbit in my basement two days ago. I have no idea how it found a hole big enough to get in, but I am sending DH down to do a very thorough inspection VERY soon.

Wow, you know how to have fun Kimberly. Maybe it's a frugal crafty rat making stepping stones to find it's way from it's home to yours.

ewww....a dead rabbit in the basement. You poor thing -- I'd have to leave home til dh could figure it all out. I'm a chicken I guess.
Interesting about the terra cota piece though. A raccoon?? They are supposed to be nocturnal but where there are people I've seen them out in broad daylight. Careful!

Could it be a ground hog?
We are thick with them this year. Nasty things, they are.

Hope you find out what is out there soon Kimberly.

Could be a stray cat, they love to play with anything they can move. My outside kitties play with stones from the driveway all the time.
