Huge snake in the backyard
I was typing away here, I face out into our backyard, and I saw that our cat Hettie was frozen to stone looking at something. I went outside and saw what I thought was a water dragon head. I walked down there to get the cat and I saw it was instead a really REALLY big snake coiled up, ready to strike at the cat. It's a carpet python so it's not poisonous but they eat animals and (gulp) chickens. I got all the chickens into their coop and called the cat back. Then the snake slowly uncoiled and slid down towards the creek. Hettie's still there staring into the bush so I guess the snake's still there.
When it uncoiled, going by the measurement of the back fence, it would have to be at least 15 feet long and about the thickness of my arm!
I've got my antique opera glasses here - the only binoculars I have. I'm going out in a minute to check out the area. Someone cover me. LOL

OK, I'm back. When I went outside again, Hettie and the snake had moved along the fence line to the other side of the yard. The snake then headed through the fence into my next door neighbour's garden. She and her neighbour on the other side have small children who are due home from school soon. I went over yelling for Angie to come out. She was asleep trying to get rid of a headache. Anyhow, I told her about the snake and sure enough just then it appeared in her driveway. She's going to pick up the kids and go to her mother's until her husband comes home. She phoned the other neighbour who's at work to let her know what's happening. The neighbour has a teenager babysit her kids afterschool until she comes home around 5.15pm. She's coming home early.
LOL! What a lot of excitement for a reptile that isn't poisonous. BTW, Angie nearly passed out when she saw the size of the snake and she thought it's around 18 feet long

Sending my slither away vibes. That's just way too much excitement. I couldn't go outside without knowing it's whereabouts. lol Glad it's moved onto the neighbor's? lmao I would be. Keep on slithering on down the road.

you can barely see it but I circled the area it's in. I took the photo from my fence with my neighbour standing next to me. When a leaf fell on my shoulder, I nearly took off. LOL!!

Blast, the circle didn't come out. Look at the light coloured palm tree trunk exactly in the centre of the photo. It's head is near the base of the tree. If you can see a grey curly line there, that's the snake. It's body ends two trees over to the right.
