    Default Yikes, I've been stung!

I've just been outside to water my greenhouse and let the chickens out. I went into the hen house to get the eggs and thought I'd walked into a spider web, but when I felt for webs or spiders, nothing. I then stood with my Airedale Alice and we watched the chooks scratching around on the lawn looking for the seeds I gave them.

On the way back inside, I brought Rosie, my other Airedale in so the dogs are away from the chooks. She came when called so I gave them both a doggie treat. While I was standing there talking to them, and no, they don't talk back, I felt a sharp pain under my elbow. It felt like a burn. I grabbed my arm came away with a stinger, like a bee stinger, but smaller. I doubt it was a wasp and our native bees don't sting. I'm not allergic to bee stings so I doubt much will happen, but if I pass out on the keyboard, someone call an ambulance.

Here in Co, we don't have but bees and wasps that sting (and if i get stung, i turn into a big baby and i call my mom and cry, lol). What other insects are there in your area that do sting? Hope it doesn't hurt long and that it isn't a problem!

I slap a cut raw onion slice on stings of all kinds, and there's something in raw onion (that reacts with water and our tears) that reacts and binds with some of the sting poisons.

Don't know if it'll help, but if it doesn't just start a nice salad for supper

When I was taking my EMT class, they said you could put meat tenderizer on bee stings to take the sting out.

Thanks everyone. I put a wet aspirin on it. That worked. It's not sore now but I have a big red circle with a bulls eye in the middle of it under my elbow.

Missy, I don't know what else is capable of stinging here. My guess is it was a paper wasp or maybe another small wasp. I can't think of anything else that could do it.

Ouch....I have only been stung once in my life and it was on the heel of my foot. It hurt so bad! Glad the wet aspirin worked. I also heard meat tenderizer works good.

A paste made of baking soda and a little water works too. When I was a child I was a wasp magnet -- good thing my mom is good at staying calm.

Glad that you're not having any major problems with the sting. I hope that it won't be itchy or sore.

Speaking from the other end of the spectrum, a sting for me entails a shot of adrenalin, Benadryl and emergency treatment. No fun at all !! The buggers may one day kill me, but I refuse to hide out inside.

    Take care!!

Tea Tree oil works great on any sting or bite.
