Toys For Tots donations
Does anyone donate to Toy's For Tots?
We (The UPS Store) are a drop off for donations and toy's this holiday season.
We just got our box the other day and sad to say we are toyless. I am going to try to pick up a few items this weekend to add to the box myself.
I donated a few dollars to the Marines at Toy's R Us the other night and again at work. We have ornament cut outs to write our names on when we donate.
We are suppose to ask every customer if they would like to donate a dollar to TFT and only about half say yes (granted there are a lot of times that we forget to ask them....lol. Well, the first full day we started it, I asked my first customer (A man that is in here all the time) if he wanted to donate a dollar to them and he said yes. Then he said "Wait, make it more than a dollar though, add $50"
I about fell over. Mostly it's the men that have been saying No thank you, or not today, but this took me by surprise when he said yes and then told me the amount.
For the most part, the women are saying yes moreso then the men and when there is more than one customer in here usually if we ask the first one the others tell us to go ahead and add it to there total before we ask.
I try to remember to ask, but I've alway's had a hard time asking for donations even when I know its for a good cause.

I usually keep a few barbies to drop in a box a bit closer to the holidays and a roll of wrapping paper.

I was thinking before Thanksgiving was a bit early to get started. But corporate sent us the ornament cuttouts last week and the local Marines gave us our drop box Wed. I usually haven't given until Dec. in the past myself, but I guess working here and having to start it this early, I'll remember to donate toy's this year instead of just a few dollars here and there.
Good idea on the roll of wrapping paper, I never would have thought about that. I may have to do that as well.

May I add a suggestion if you are going to purchase a gift? Last year I helped with TFT. There was a ton of things for young girls. What I observed and sad about, was the pile for older children there was so little. So may I suggest purchase something for the older children. Perhaps 10yo or slightly older.

Toysrus has there set up already. I took the kids there a couple of days ago (they wanted to spend their allowance) they both bought an extra toy and dropped it in the box when we were walking out

We always donate to them. Our school district hosts a toy drive every year. The children collect toys and bring them to school to donate. At the end of the drive, the Marines come and pick them up during a morning ceremony.
