    Default Good idea???

I have a collection of Jim Beam decanters. I'd previously sold two on ebay. One for 56 and one for 7.99.   There is such a glut of them on ebay now.

I was thinking of taking pictures and sending out a letter to antique shops with in 30 miles to see if they are interested. Do you think thats a good idea? Any other ideas?

I think that is a great idea. It would not cost anything except postage and the cost of printing the photos and the worst that could happen is that they would say no.

I think it's a good idea too. I mean it can't hurt, right?

When we had our store, I pretty much threw that sort of thing away without even looking at it. I would suggest next time you are in an antique store if they aren't really busy try starting a conversation with the owner. By asking the right questions you should be able to find out what the market is like right now. I would try to keep it casual and not just barge in with a bunch of stuff and ask how much he would give you for it. That sort of thing tends to put store owners off.

If you do go ahead and send out your packets of info. be sure to follow up. If you wait for them to respond to you they probably won't. Just one follow-up call about a week later is enough and if they say no they say no. You might leave your phone number in case he hears of someone looking for what you have -- but again don't count on hearing anything.

I don't think it could hurt. Give it a shot!! (hAr, har, get it...Jim Beam...give it a "shot"... )

Ahem. Really, I can't see it being a bad idea at all. So what if one dealer doesn't open it? Others very well might. I'd go for it.

    I'm rooting for you!!

As long as it doesn't cost alot for the mailing, why not? I do think the follow up call will help, too. It's always worth the try, you just might have exactly what someone is looking for.

Ok this idea is scrapped! I decided to put a call into our local antique store owner that I know from volunteering at school. I read her the list of what I have. Stated they were all unopened and full of booze and dating before 1974 and asked if she knew where to get rid of them. She offered to take the lot. She will vist monday to talk about price! I felt funny asking her but decided to bite the bullet. I figured she might not mind much as she owes me for some emergency hair advice/help.
    Mom will be happy too!

By the way the cash from these isn't mine. They were my Dads and Mom was going to thriftsale the huge lot for 5$. I told her no way!
She about fell over when I sold the 1st one for 56 plus shipping. She wanted to split the cash and I told her no way it was hers. Anyways I forgot about them for a while and I'd love the space back. I will keep the on Dad bought the day I was bormn though.

Forgot to add ( jokingly here) I'm going to have to hide all my 1920 dishes when she comes over!

I took a few old festiva to her a few years ago to get an ins. estimate and she badgered my pretty well about selling. All good naturedly though. Ahh! I love small town life!

That's great, though, that you may have them sold!! I'm sure it'll be higher than $5.
