    Default Finally bought my

    TURKEY

I'm not making T-day dinner at my house, but we love turkey so much dh requests that I make a turkey dinner between T-day & Christmas, and again at New Years (I can feel my pants size growing lol). This time I got a big one... 22.1 lbs

The lowest price around was 39c/lb plus a $25 in store purchase (not including the cost of the turkey). If I find them cheaper as T-day gets closer, I will buy another because they always go up to 99c/lb after the holidays.

MMMM, we're getting a 9-10 pounder today. But if i can find another one or two at a good price, I have made room in the freezers!!

We eat it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, NewYears...

I'd like to have them more often, even once during the summer. But every year i i say that and never do it.

I don't believe I have ever bought a turkey... We are always at DH family gathering for Thanksgiving, and we usually have ham on Christmas.. New Years it has been bbq pork ribs in the crockpot... Never had the need nor the urge to buy one... My mother is probably turning over in her grave, with me not buying turkey...

My employer gives every employee (thousands) a turkey every holiday season. I got mine on Thursday- DH stopped by to pick it up. I've never once eaten one bite of mine, though. I give it to my sister, because my little niece loves turkey soup. If I couldn't give it to her, though, I would give it to a shelter.

I probably won't get a turkey this year.
Last year, a friend of mine gave me a BIG one as a gift. I had already bought one....so anyway, when I was sick in January, a different friend came to stay with me to help with DD2 & she cooked that second turkey. I *still* have leftover turkey in the freezer.
So, that coupled with the *new* leftover turkey I'll have from this weekend at the in-laws, I'll have lots & lots!!

OK, I can't say for *sure* I won't get one....sometimes the sales are pretty tempting.

We always end up having Christmas and Thanksgiving at a relative's house - so we started doing a mock-Thanksgiving for all of our friends in early December. We'll probably get the Turkey the day after Thanksgiving.

We like turkey too. Dh gets one from work, but we go to my sisters for Thanksgiving. So I will be making another dinner on either Friday or Saturday this week.

I got one today for .18/lb with 25.00 purchase. Since I did my monthly shopping trip, I spent waaay more than 25.00! I got a 22 lb one to stuff into the freezer.

Jean, I always thaw ours with a water bath. I use our big cooler (that we use for picnics, etc) and fill it with cool water & the turkey. Then I change the water every couple of hours. Thawing with a water bath takes 30 mins per pound of turkey.

Some people have used their bathtubs rather than the cooler, but I find I use less water with the cooler

Thanks for the tip! We may have to resort to this if it's still hard as a rock on Thursday morning.
