Do you write how you speak?
When ever I type stuff on here or on to disk for other things I have noticed a change.........
Well, after being at home so long not only has my brain turned to mush ,I also find I am writing in my native Yorkshire accent
This means my grammer is all to pot............ & with my manky hands tripping over the keys and my accented typing,.......... when I re-read what I have posted, it looks like it was done by a drunken cross-eyed dog wearing boxing gloves
I watched the movie "Calander Girls" the other night and although I knew they filmed it in North Yorkshire, I was dissapointed that they didn't have one of them, who could do a believable accent
ooh, ecky thump, I want half mad abowt that! we 'ave our own way of talking and sum folks think it's cute and sum think we sound a bit thick
I quite like my accent and the Hawaiian folk thought it was cute too
but the funniest thing that ever happend was when a little girl in Northumberland ( a whole 150 miles away
) spoke to me v-e-r--y s-l-o-w-l-y, asking me "are you from Scot-land?"
Well, I 'ad to laff at that!

My typing tends to use proper grammar. My speech is very, shall we say "rural"? Some might say redneck.

I enjoy reading your accents Karen and Rachael.
I pretty much speak like I type except a few bad words that spill out every once in awhile.

I basically type like I speak. I probably speak better than I type. It all depends on how tired I am. Right now, I'm soo tired. Just a long day at work.

My grammar is close to perfect since I spent time editing mauscripts for a magazine while in college. Since I work in a library, good grammar is essential.
However, I try to be warm and friendly, so I spend a lot of time talking with everyone. I "soak up" accents! DH says he can always tell when I have been talking to my family in Oklahoma or watching "Coal Miner's Daughter" since I start to sound like them! LOL
My typing is horrible since my fingers get behind my brain.
I also become annoyed with people who use poor grammar. I don't mean those who don't know better, but those who DO and choose not to. For example, one of my co-workers uses "I seen" rather than "I saw". GRRR! She knows better but chooses to continue using this incorrectly.
My biggest pet peeve is the use of "its" vs. "it's". "It's" is a contraction of "it is"; it is not used to show possession!
For example:
"It's nice to see you, Tom." "It's" is used in place of "it is".
"The dog chews on its bone." "Its" is used as a possessive, NOT "it's"!
Are y'all tired of this yet?

Exactly! Even though I have a college degree, I tend to talk more "southern" and "rural/redneck"Originally posted by joyofsix
