Default Has anyone used their hobby for....

.... a business?? I'm thinking about building a backyard office. It'll take a while to gather materials for hubby to construct it himself. He can do it a lot cheaper than having one built or buying one pre-made, but even so, supplies aren't cheap. So I've got a while (have a building fund going). What I'm contemplating is using it for an office and setting it up to use my hobbies for a business. It would be great if I can do what I like to do for free and make a bit of profit. And have my own space to do it in.

So, anyone do or is doing something like this? Made a business from your hobby??

    Bring on them baby steps...
    Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
    Step 5: grown child
    Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
    Step 7: ahhhh....

i bake as a hobby and have made many cakesfor sale, but they were friends that asked if i would bake a wedding cake or sheet cake for whatever function was going on. they paid me, but i haven't wanted to make it a full time business because i don't want to see it as work and then it becomes something i dread.

I have been drawing portraits for a year now. I haven't made a lot of money from it and probably never will, but I enjoy it and every little bit helps.

I don't know the laws of "your Land"...but here, I had to purchase a vendors license. You also need to know the rules for conducting your business and local, state and federal tax.

Just do your homework before you get in over your head.
