New from Chicago
I just found this site on a web search and joined a little bit ago.
My name is Deb and I have been married to Brian for 7 years. We have two little boys Patrick (5) and Logan (3).
We are in debt up to our eyeballs and I hope to learn more about debt reduction and being generally frugal. We have done okay, but could be WAY better.
We have our finances separate because Brian has issues stemming from his other two marriages (I'm his 3rd wife) that cause him to not trust anyone with his money. We have the household bills equally divided though and do have a problem with that in that he makes 2x what I do and doesn't understand why I run out of money first. He's also the first to admit that he's a financial idiot and I run most things finance wise in our house, 401K, life insurance, utility management, etc.
We ach have our own credit cards and he has been very good about paying one of them just about off. My situation is a bit different, because I make less money than he does (no he won't "float me a loan" it's his and hers with the money) I can't pay things down as fast. Also, because I make less money I have relied on credit cards to buy things like food and gas to get to and from work and it has all built up on me. Then Christmas hit and, well, you know the cycle.
Before anyone says anything about the finances, it really does work for us but sometimes I don't explain it just right and it sounds like it doesn't. My problem is that I often go astray and get way out ahead of myself with the money. And Brian is such a flakey person with his money it would make me crazy trying to keep his checkbook in order. Just based on the fact that I am an accountant I'd have had a stroke years ago if I had to keep his financial records. LOL!!!
Anyway, I am rambling because I have alot to say and I always try to get it out all at once so I end up sounding silly. :-) I am looking forward to learning from you and getting to know you all.
Thanks for having this site.

to the Village. I think most of us have made a few financial mistakes, hence the need for a place like this. We don't claim to be perfect.........we are all trying to do better. It's a work in progress
