    Default I am so irritated...

I posted on another thread that we had a hot water pipe break at our house sometime Christmas eve or very early Christmas morning. The insurance adjuster finally got back with me yesterday to give me a claim number so I could call a plumber. He forgot to mention that I had to call one of their plumbers. After I set up an appointment with a "rogue" plumber, I called back and got the bad news, so I had to call the first plumber, cancel and them call 3 more plumbers before I could find one that could come out this morning.

The plumber showed up about the same time as the adjuster. The adjuster did his thing and the plumber did his. The plumber looked at me and said, (I'm not joking about this either) "You have a leak." Well.... DUH!!! I didn't say anything. My mind was racing with thoughts like: And you have special training to tell me this? You're charging me $115 an hour to tell me this? What was your first clue? The squishy carpet or did the adjuster warn you? Are you new?

Anyway, he looked at the area around the leak, stood up, walked to the adjuster and said, "I'll get the bid to you this afternoon."

WHAT?!?! BID?!?! Yes, I heard him right. We are without hot water for yet ANOTHER night...maybe two. Granted, I do most of the laundry in cold water anyway and I can heat water on the stove for dishes, but I'm SERIOUSLY getting tired of cold showers.

I know... it could be worse. It could be 20 degrees outside instead of 80. That would make a cold shower much less palatable. It could have been both the hot water and the cold water pipes that broke. But gosh darn it... I want a nice hot shower!

Oh well, at least we have water and the weather is nice and we have our health and ... oh who am I kidding... I WANT MY HOT WATER BACK!!!

I feel your pain. few months ago I had to try to find a plummer on a holiday weekend. took me a while before anyone would call me back. One guy came and said he could fix it in 2 days and charged me $60 to tell me that.( but he did send us a Christmas card ) Got a hold of an old handyman we used to have (thought he retired) and he came right out and put in a valve so we could bypass the hot water and at least have water. He was wonderful. He was able to come back & fix it in a couple days and didn't kill me with a high bill.
Moral of the story~ try to find yourself a reliable plumber before you need him.
Hope you get things fixed soon. Enjoy that soon -to-be hot shower.

Oh Teena! I hope that the plumber gets his bid in quickly.

Sounds like you had a visit from one "smart" plumber!!

    And the saga continues...

We finally heard back from the insurance company and they approved the bid so we can call a plumber and get the leak fixed. Sounds great, right?

    WRONG!

The insurance company called at 4:30 and even though I called the plumber right after I got off the phone with them, the plumber couldn't get here today. We'll have to pay weekend rates if we want the leak fixed before Monday and that's not covered in the bid.

    I give up! lol
