Default Cashier undercharged me by almost $30.00!!!!

I knew something wasn't right because I bought a lot of groceries and got money back. I had two gift certicates and 1 coupon. I was there Tuesday. I was going to say something to her but it was busy and I didn't want to embrass her. I hate holding up the checkout line if there's people behind me. So, I went home and looked at my receipt and sure enough, the cashier enter the gift certicates TWICE. Should I call the manager at the store and explain to her what happened and pay what I owe or just keep my mouth shut that I got almost $30.00 worth of groceries for free.

I agree 100% with what Pepper said.

When that has happened to me, I've always made sure I told the manager. In most cases they are totally shocked someone is honest and then say "forget it, it's our mistake". Even if they don't you'll feel good doing it.

I would call and explain the situation to the grocery manager. I am afraid if you don't the cashiers drawer is going to come up $30 short and it could cause her problems. I believe in living according to the saying "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Pay what you owe. it's much the best. For me to do otherwise is theft. I always bring it to their attn when they overcharge me, and I've had them say all grumpy that if they'd overpaid me, that I would pocket it. I like telling them with a straight face and a clear conscience that nope, I'd pay them back just the same.

I agree. It was a large amount and the cashier will be accountable for the money. I'm sure it was an easy mistake to make.

please call and tell the manager what happened. because it's a large amount, the cashier may have had some sort of disiplinary action taken against her since she would have been short on her drawer at the end of the night. if you call and tell the manager what happened, they could got back and correct the mistake. instead of getting written up, she may just get retrained to make sure she is ringing up gift certs correctly.
at the compnay i work for, any amount over $20.00 means you get written up.
they may have been able to figure out that she rang in the gift serts twice, but her drawer would still be short, and she'd still be in trouble.
if you call about it they may ask you to return the money or they may say to keep it since it was their mistake, but if you call and explain what happened and they tell you to keep it, you can keep it with a clear conscience.

As a cashier I can say, "Please, call!" As a person I can say, "Please, call!"

Mistakes happen, but shortages become suspisions not mistakes.

I'd rather know I made a mistake than to have my boss think I was a thief.

Please do call. The casher's drawer is going to come up short and she will get in trouble. If you tell the manager then I don't think she will get in trouble for a honest mistake.

I'm with the call the manager.
Then i'd head back there and pay what I owed. I couldn't live with myself if I just took it , and let the cashier get in trouble.

I am a cashier. Please call the store manager. It is not good for the cashier to be thought of as a thief, when she made an honest mistake.

Me too, I'd let them know. It might make you feel good knowing you have $30 more than you should have, but just imagine the feeling of generosity you'll have when you let them know what happened.
