Hearing Impairment and Jobs

For those of you who are hearing impaired or know someone who is hearing impaired, what kind of job do you have? I'm asking because I'm hearing impaired and work in retail (Supermarket). I didn't mind working there when I first started a little over 5 yrs. ago. But since I been hired, there's been a lot of changes and cuts in labor hours which has made my job much more stressful than when I was first hired. By the way, I'm 26 and attended college but never graduated because of lack of money and wasn't sure what I wanted to do at the time. I can hear fairly well with hearing aids. Any advice???

I really don't have any advice, I just wanted to say that my bil is hearing impaired and wears a hearing aid. I know how hard it can be. He doesn't talk on the phone and pretty much can only really understand what you say by reading your lips.

have you tried looking into working in another retail store, maybe as a floor associate? if you hear pretty well with hearing aids, it shouldn't be too difficult. though i would look for a smaller store, not something as big as walmart. it might get crazy around christmas time, but other wise it shouldn't be too stressful. my only concern would be whether or not you could hear pages on the intercom or pages over a walkie talkie. the store i work at uses both. if you had a problem with the walkie talkie, everyone would just have to make sure they paged you over the intercom.

My nephew is deaf, and he does graphic design on the computer.

His wife is also deaf and she's a forensic pathologist.
