    Default eek! unexpected guest

DH phoned about an hour ago. His cousin is coming for dinner and staying the night. His Australian wife is going to Sydney to visit her folks and DH's cousin is visiting us. They live 6 months here and 6 months in Germany so I can't really put him off.

Ack! We were going to have vegetables for dinner. Now I have to cook something from the stockpile. I might make salmon patties, potatoes with butter and parsley and a salad. Ice cream and cherries for dessert. We still have wine left over from Christmas in the fridge.

I hate unexpected guests. Especially when they're not my my side of the family. I always think my side knows me well enough to look past anything not right but with DH's side I think everything has to be perfect. I've just cleaned up my mess from making Quark, next I'm vacuuming the floors and cleaning out the guest bathroom.

He'll be here in 2 hours lol. Wish me luck.

Oh, one good thing is that he's a freelance editor so I'll show him my book and he can work for his supper.

Oh Rhonda, I don't like unexpected overnight guest either. Thank goodness for your stockpile; one less thing to think about. Hope all so well for you

Oh Rhonda, my sympathies, I agree that is putting you on the spot a bit.

They will enjoy you and your home just fine. And maybe you'll get a good book deal out of it, here's hoping!

Have fun with them, and I hope they are the right kind, relaxed and fun people.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like surprise guests.

So, the potatoes are cooked, the floors vacuumed and I've moped the floors over with vinegar and lavender oil. We smell sweet. lol

When the floor is dry, I'll make the patties, set the table, feed the dogs and cat, collect the eggs, have a shower and look cool and calm when he arrives. I hope I don't have to stay up too late listening to them speak their German/English mix

    How'd it go?

Wonderful to get dinner planned without a grocery trip!

I despise entertaining guests, so I feel for you. I can't imagine having a surprise guest! How did it go? I'm sure you were the picture of the perfect hostess!

I hate surprise guests too. I'm the same way- my family is fine, even my friends, but with DH's mother, well, she is so nit-picky I fell like everything has to be absolutely perfect.

    Hope it is going well.

It was better and worse than I expected. He arrived one hour early, so I had to entertain him while we waited for DH to come home. I hadn't finished preparing everything when he arrived so I sat him at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee while I finished off my chores.

Dinner was fine, in fact, he even complimented me on the salmon patties and asked for the recipe for his wife. BUT, we'd just started eating dinner when there was ANOTHER kock on the door and in walked my step-son and DIL. DH had told them the cousin was coming over so they decided to rock on over. So I got them coffees and Cathy wanted to show me some of her new quilts, so we finally got through dinner and they left.

The cousin has been back on forth to Germany about 4 times in the past few months and he now has a huge blood clot (DVT)running from his knee to his hip. He can't sit for too long with his foot down, so as soon as we finished eating and the others left, I got the two old boys into the loungroom where we have reclining leather chairs with foot rests. They sat in there drinking a beer with their feet up. They were talking German so I turned on the TV for them (so I didn't have to listen) and started cleaning up the kitchen. At 745pm, I said goodnight and went to my bedroom and watched the cricket!! AND WE WON!

Oh Rhonda, glad you survived. I really don't like those kind of unexpected surprises, and it sounds like you came thru like a winner!
