When was the last time you purchased new pillows?
I know what Sara's answer will be here, how about everyone else.
I'm waiting for pillows to go on sale. I'll be purchasing new ones for everyone and a extra one for when company comes.

When Julia got a bed instead of a crib, we bought pillows for her. Other than that, I don't think we ever have. Ick. I think I need to get on that. They are just so darn expensive!

Oh so long ago and it shows.
We need new pillows very badly. I just don't have the extra money for them.

I invested in big beautiful terribly expensive (approx $80 for a pair-then marked down and with coupon to $40 at JC Penney) pillows when we bought the house almost 4 years ago, but they really are still in very good shape, hoping to get at least another year out of the ones we both actually put our heads on, at least 2 more years out of the others.

i bought my pillow 5 years ago for $50.00. dh just about had a cow, but i used my birthday money and it's lasted me these 5 years. $10.00/year.
he goes through pillows like nobody's business, but he keeps picking out the cheap $10.00 pillows that break down after a couple of months. i did finally get him to invest in a pillow better and he's been using this once for about 6 months.
i have a down pillow. if you think you are allergic to down, go to a bb&b ot LnT and look at their midrange to high end down pillows. season is the brand bb&b carries, but i can't rmeember what LnT has. anyway, the high end to midrange pillows are going to have down that has been cleaned multiple times to get rid of impurities. most people are allergic to the dander and dirt mixed in with the cheaper pillows because the down and feathers aren't cleaned as well in the cheaper pillows. hold one of the display pillows and see if you start sneezing. obviously if your reaction to down is more than just a sneezing fit, you want to use caution testing to see if it's teh inpurities or the down itself. there is a small percentage of people that really are allergic to down and not just the dander and what not. but it is small.
if you want a down altrenative, try one that has the polyfill mimic down. there are some out there with the polyfill is in little clusters like down. they are very comfortable.
i'm not a big fan of teh memoryfoam pillows, because the viscoelastic material is heat sensative, it takes a bit for it to reshape itself when you change position. it also traps some of your body heat and can be uncomfortable in teh summer.
this is one area where i would rather spend a little more money to make sure the pillow will last more than a month.
oh and look at the different pillow protects out there for those of you with new pillows. there are some treat with teflon to prevent stains, tehre are some that keep dust mites at bay, and a few others. the teflon ones are good if you have someoen that drools or sweats a lot. anything that soaks through the pillowcase won't soak through to the pillow. just washt he protector when ou was you bedding. you won't have to clean your pillows very often with a protector on it.wife to carl

It has been several years for us and I know that we need to purchase new ones soon. I can tell when mine are wearing out when I start waking up with headaches from the way my head is lying on them.
