Could you work at a customer service counter?
I doubt it. The first nasty customer who came in I'd tell them to get lost.

I certainly respect those who can.

I deal with customer service at work and some of the people that call in can be down right mean.
I just try to stay calm and be nice to them but if they get to nasty or I can't deal with them I will transfer them to my supervisor.

Yup, I'm sure I can. I did it for 9 years
I'm not a confrontational person but there have been many a time where I wish I could have told a few of them to take a hike! I'm so glad I don't work there anymore.

I am the office manager where I work and that often involves working the front desk. I like it.

I actually LOVE customer service. I'm really good at it. However, my employer sees it as a waste of my other (more valuable) skills, so I don't get much of an opportunity to do it. I'm not sure what they are thinking, though, because if you can turn a customer experience around from a abad one to a good one, that is probably the most valuable skill you have.

I deal with lots of patients families and friends who have issues with the patient's care (this is an excellent example and this actually happened last week in our busy critical care unit "My mother's medication was due at 9:00am and the nurse was not in the room to give them to her until 9:15" and the family member had been at my desk every 3 minutes since 9am asking where his mother's meds were) or the patient's doctors and they come to my desk with their complaints and I am usually able to sooth things out and they leave feeling better about the situation. I think I could work customer service anywhere.
