Ford getting rid of 25,000 people
I heard in the news this morning that Ford is laying off 25,000 people. Oh my god! I live in MI and this will definetly affect our state let alone the rest of the US. My heart goes out to these people. I feel that with all these layoffs in the US it really is going to affect our economy. Will this be affecting anyone on this board? I pray to God not!

I heard this as well. I sure hope no one is affected here, however the trick affect will affect more than just those laid off.
I also had heard ALL 4 of the big car makers are planning on huge lay-offs this coming year.

Ford is supposed to announce the closing of the Hapeville. GA (suburban Atlanta) plant, today. I know several people from here in my hometown, commute to work there. Also, GM is closing their Atlanta plant, as well. Add to that the fact that Delta (Atlanta based) airlines laid off a huge amount of their workforce and that's a recipe for economic disaster for some working class people here in GA.

I feel bad for anyone being laid off from their job.

When so many people are laid off it has a domino effect on everyone across the U.S. I am sad to hear this and pray for those who will be directly hit by this lay-off.
I can remember when we had lay-offs at my place of business. When announcements are made, everyone shakes until you hear the names. If you are one of the lucky ones you are both grateful (that you still have a job) and sad (that someone you know lost theirs)
I wish all of the worker's at Ford well.

I live in Mich and I thank god all the time that I chose civil engineering instead of Industrial/Mechanical - the route I was going. My degree is actually so I can work in the Auto industry, but I got this job, and never left. I bet if I would of went to actually "use"my degree I would be the one being laid off soon. I really think that the mich ecomony is in the pits right now, and this is going to bring it down even more.
