    Thumbs down We have coyotes!

So, every night I get woke up by a pack of coyotes! They go thru the neighborhood around 1AM, 3AM and 4:30AM! Kind of scary, with all the yipping and whining! It sounds really spooky! I get up at 4:30AM every morning, and I'm afraid to let the dog out until daylight now!

Any suggestions on how to deter them away from here?

We have them here, too. A subdivision is being built across the road and as the workers were clearing brush, a man was bitten by a coyote. They are fat, because they steal chickens from a nearby chicken farm.

As we build into their space they are running out of places to go.
No hints on how to deter them but wanted to chime in on the noise they make, nothing else like it. Very haunting.

I also have no insight on how to deter them. When we lived in the country we had packs of coyotes and foxes come through all the time. I have never been scared of the dark, until now I wouldn't go out on my own and I don't blame you for being frightened to let the dog out!!

We have a number of coyotes in our area, however they haven't come right into town as of yet.

I'm not sure there is any way of deterring them. They will pretty much go where they want unless you can call up a wild life organization and ask them.

We have them here too. Neighbors have lost many a small animal to them. I think the only way is the call the Wildlife Dept. and see if they can set some traps.

I'll trade you your coyotes for my neigbors 2 St.Bernards, they stand under my bedroom window all night and bark at the wildlife.

I don't think you have to worry about the coyotes. They are all around us and we hear them at night a lot --- especially when a train passes through the area. They eat small mammals --- mice, maybe a rabbit, etc.

Wild dogs are more of a problem than coyotes.

Kimberly, I'd love to hear your fox!

We have a lot of them in our area here too. I hear them singing in early morning when I am getting ready for work about 4am. They rarely venture near our house but they sure make a lot of noise across the pastures from us.

Im not sure how many Fox we have around here, but Ive seen them at night, by way of street lights, through my bedroom window. They scrounge through the ditches for food and such. They are pretty big and have beautiful, long, bushy tails.
The first time I heard them, it scared the day lights out of me ....sounded like a sick baby crying in the distance or something, but now I love them.

We have tons of them here. I just go out with my dog when they neep to go to the bathroom. Now I needn't worry as we have big dogs so I don't think they will mess with the dobies. We also have coyote hunters here so they try to keep the population down.
What does scare me though ate the bobcats and the mountain lions.

That's very cool, Kim! Where we lived many years ago, there was a fox that came through our pasture a few times, but we rarely saw any. I did see one in town here last fall one early morning on my way home from delivering DD to her 6:00 am volleyball practice. That was very exciting.

My college work was in wildlife management/conservation. I like the "critters".

Coyotes will kill and eat housecats and small dogs. Houses bordering on ravines, and semi forested areas are more likely to lose small pets.

We have them around here. Not much you can do short of shooting them which isn't legal in city limits. If you have a larger dog they will scare them off but they have to be bigger and more aggressive than the coyotes.

If you have small pets or livestock keep them in at night. That is when they hunt.

Coyotes are bigger than foxes, but not as big as wolves. They are extremely intelligent.
