just what are these? i see everyone gets a flower in their siggy but what are they for?

Brownie points are something you get for posting and getting involved, being helpful too. 
The things in the box are clubs you've joined or awards for different things. Just some fun stuff.
This section will tell you all about them and lots more.

Also brownie points can only be given by mods.

Badges can only be given by super mods or admin. If you scroll your mouse over the badges in your badge box, it will tell you what its for. The purple flower means your a member.

i scroll my mouse over but cant see the description. nothing comes up. but i get what youre saying about brownie points. thanks both of you!

I think some peoples computer settings don't allow them to hold their mouse over the awards and see what they say. Here's a list for some of them. http://www.frugalvillage.com/villageawards.shtml
