Happy to join the village!
Ok, to start, here's the questionnaire:
How did I hear about Frugal Village? It came up in a Google search on frugality, often, and I finally checked it out about a month ago, and really liked finding post after post of values I share, wisdom, and genuine kindness. All of you deserve roses!
What interests you here? I haven't explored too much yet, but I especially liked the cheerful support focused around the frugality and debt challenges.
Know anyone else here? No.
Kids? None. Ex-nun.
About myself. Hmmm. I live in Lousiana (the dry northern part). I've done lots of different things along the years. I studied medieval philosophy, got tired of having to read everything in Latin, finished my college career with a disseration on science fiction (if any Martians join the village, I'll know how to make them feel right at home). Taught writing in college for a while, then went to the convent and there taught 7th grade for a year, which was clearly not what I was designed to do, but I firmly believe that I and the students all emerged from the experience without any permanent psychological damage, was the school librarian for a couple of years, then became administrator of a brand new day care (fun job -- I got to buy all the toys!), then was administrator of a large residential facility for developmentally disabled children (a really tough job). Left the convent after 10 years, became the office manager for an opera company (a bizarre job), and after six years of that landed in my pefect job -- night supervisor in a medical school library. Lots of time on my hands to surf and read the village posts! Now it's time to really focus on preparing for (I hope!) retirement in years to come.
Pets? Two cats, as of last October. Maggie, about 1.5 years, was a hurricane Rita rescue. To help resolve some serious behavior issues (poor lady had been through some real trauma), I got her a kitten of her own, Toby, now pushing 6 months. She's a princess and much too smart for her own good, and he's a real sweetheart. It's a joy to have cats again after many years.
SAHM or working mom? Obviously neither, but full of respect for those who are!
Single, very happily so. I thrive in silence and solitude -- but good company is never rejected either.
Interests and hobbies? Hard to say. I read some, and used to crochet before the cats came, but they're still young enough to think yarn is just another attraction in this kitty Disneyland they're living in. Their hobby is pestering me to come play with them and stop wasting my time at the computer -- like now.
A lengthy post, but I have a lot of years to account for. I'll be much more succinct in future! Promise!
