Angry Why did I bother making an appointment?

I had to take our van in for some work. I called the dealership yesterday, and made an appointment for 9am this morning. I figured that would give me plenty of time to get home to pick up DD from school at 2:00. I decided to wait at the dealership, rather than going to the mall, and being tempted to spend money I don't need to. At around 11:30, the guy came in to tell me that they were just getting it in. That meant they still had to diagnose the problem before they could fix it. I called a neighbour across the street to see if she could pick up DD, in case I couldn't. Thank goodness she was OK with that. I wait until about 2, and ask the guy what's going on. They have it all apart, and are trying to find the problem. Finally, at 3, he comes in and says that there were a few wires that were corroded, and they just have to cut off the bad parts, and put it back together. When I eventually get to leave, it's past 3:30! I had been there for 6 1/2 hours!! Unfortunately, I live 1/2 hour away from the city the dealership is in, so it wasn't really feasible for them to drive me home, and come pick me up again. Next time, I think I'm just going to show up there, maybe I'll get in faster!!
Two good things came of this, though. One, it was under warranty, so nothing out of my pocket! Two, I started (and almost finished) a great library book--lots of uninteruppted reading!

I am glad you were able to get it fixed under warranty, but sorry you had to wait for 6 1/2 hours.

I get to drop my van off at the dealership tomorrow. They said they should be able to give me a ride home or I'm gonna be stuck there like you were. It will really stink because I will have my 2 & 5 yr olds with me. I love having the warranty (although we have a $100 deductible per visit) but dealerships always take so long to fix anything. I'm going to drop it off at 7am and hope they have it done by close of business.

I think that I would be requesting a courtesy car (loaner) from them ! It is poor customer service to leave a customer stranded (even in the dealership) for hours at a time!!

I would be asking them to provide a courtesy car (loaner) if the service was going to take a while. I think it is just poor customer service to leave a person stranded (even at the dealership) for hours on end !!

I think our dealership only gives loaners if they are going to have the car several days. I thought my warranty covered a rental, but the last time we put the car in we had to pay $20 something.

I am so sorry for this happening to you. It seems that every year customer service goes downhill. I remember when people tried so hard to please everyone. If only they would realize that is the way to get repeat customers and new customers by word of mouth.
