    Default Last Day of Work

Well, today is my last day of work. It is a bittersweet day. While I am certainly excited about this new phase in our lives with baby #3, I will miss my students and my job very much.

This morning, there was an announcement during our first class that all Unit 8-1 teachers were to bring their students to the cafeteria immediately. I thought that they were all going to get in trouble because they were misbehaving in lunch yesterday. So, I go to the cafeteria, and there were all 120 of my students with a cake, juice, etc. They had approached our science teacher and said that they wanted to do something for me. So, they pitched in money for a cake, juice, decorations, and they purchased a Dr. Seuss anthology book for the baby. During their science classes, the whole unit has been working on a poem for the baby, which they wrote on the inside cover of the book, and then they all signed the inside covers. It was extremely sweet.

I've been so tough the whole pregnancy, but when I saw all my students (who have been totally apathetic about EVERYTHING this year) sitting in the cafeteria waiting for me, I just cried and cried and cried. I made a little speech and cried some more and then we had cake.

It was very sweet and touching. 14 year olds don't usually give a crap about anything that isn't directly related to them. (Yes, I realize that part of the excitement for them was getting out of class and eating cake )

So, I just have a full-day of play rehearsal tomorrow to get through and then I'm home until June 2nd! I can't believe it!

Oh Amy! That WAS sweet of the class, and even for getting out of it and cake --14 yr olds wouldn't go to all that trouble for just cake.

They really do care about you, so you have been reaching them and getting thru to them all along.

    Bless their little adolescent hearts!!!!!

HUGS and blessings on their teacher too!!!!

    Amy,

I agree with Margery. Your post is so touching it tells everyone just how you feel about "your kids". And how they feel about you as well. This is something you will always remember.

That was so sweet. It is easy to tell that your students truly love you.

That is great what they did for you. You have left a lasting impression on them and them on you. You will never regret quitting work to be with your children and you will always have the memories of teaching.

That was so sweet of the kids to think about you. You must be a pretty special teacher to get all that.

You are so right about 8th graders!  Every now and then, they just surprise you.  Enjoy your break from work! You'll be back to work before you know it!
