Greetings
Greetings to all. I joined this group after signing up for a debt elimination course and finding out that right now, it is going to take me thirteen years to completely eliminate my debt (which includes my mortgage, an adjustable rate HELOC, and credit cards). I am hoping to do it in ten, so I can retire at age fifty and actually ENJOY life for a while!
I am single, and I live in California, which doesn't make it any easier to keep up with the cost of living! Right now, I am concentrating on learning to live without the credit cards, but it can be a challenge. Seems like every time I start to see a light at the end of the tunnel, some emergency comes up that requires me to pull out the plastic.
I have a menagerie of critters, which is part of what costs so much. Most of them are rescues and are physically challenged in some way, so it is not cheap to keep them. But they all contribute back. I have donkeys and goats, who keep the brush down and provide me with cashmere. I also have chickens, who I don't eat, but who give me about 20 eggs a day! I am always trying to get a garden going, but never seem to have the discipline to keep it manicured. This last spring, when I finally thought all was going well, I left a gate open by mistake and the chickens came in and "landscaped" for me!
I am looking forward to learning from this community and hopefully contributing a bit some day! Thanks for having me!

Thank you for the words of encouragement! I'm chipping away at it. One thing I did was tell everyone who buys me presents for bday, Xmas, etc. to instead give me money to apply to debts. I told them they are buying me a month or two of freedom down the road that way, which is worth more to me than any material item!!
