Thumbs up gone for a few days, fil coming to visit, very busy

I might be in and out, but I'm in a busy patch of life right now.

we had a few social things this last weekend, and some other odds and ends besides Valentines,

and then fil called and took us up on the offer to visit, which I'm delighted to see.

    So I've been busy,

last night I got a nice fat ham with plenty of rind and fat which he adores, that will be for a family dinner which dd will come to on Sat night.

today I must buy another package of oxtails, as I'm making oxtail soup for him, plus his liverwurst which he has for lunches.

I bought the whipping cream he takes in his coffee last night, along with lemons for his tea, extra brown sugar etc.

Thank goodness I left room in the grocery budget this last weekend, it was my payday shopping.

I am making biscotti and maple coconut cookies, because he cant' live without his cookies at night.

He is as thin as a rail, and twice as frail looking, but he loves to eat rich food.

I'm meeting the bus today at 3, and picking dh up from work at 4, teaching my home fellowship at 7

and tomorrow I will be feeding that frail looking 89 year old who can out eat lumberjacks, and has done all his life.

Buttermilk cheese biscuits, buttermilk waffles, cookies, soups, and lots and lots of food in general.

I'm enjoying myself too. I love to cook for him, he is so appreciative.

Have fun Margery, I'm in for everything but the soup Somehow I just don't think I'd like oxtails in it

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

    Well ladies, it's going well.

I ended up later yesterday with a migraine, but I'd made the soup and one type of cookie, so all was well. Plus the house was fine and didn't need any cleaning so that was good, I just went to bed, and dh picked him up from the bus depot.

I sucked it up and did fine and went to bed early.

Feeling fine today, they are all upstairs napping waiting for the dinner I got going in the oven.

LOL ladies, ok, OXTAILS are exactly that. Cow tail bones, and the meat on them. They make the BEST soup. You brown them in a little hot oil (do any of my soups start any other way???) and add onions, and parsnips, bay leaf, salt and peppercorns and water.

It is a bit of a European delicacy, and one that my Scottish and British grandparents all enjoyed, plus my Russian in laws.
