I volunteer at my girls' school at least once a week and help out with PTO functions as well.
I wanted to volunteer at our local hospital in the nursery (rocking babies), but they wanted a 20 hr minimum/week commitment, and I just couldn't do that much

I knit, crochet, sew for various charites such as Pine Ridge Reservation, local homeless shelter, Balboa's babies, etc.
I bake pies---- LOTS of pies for the community picnic (a fund raiser dinner for the rescue squad). I generally bake around 50 pies.
I work the phone-a-thon for the local Christian radio station.
I make and take dinners to community members who have suffered a loss, been hospitalized, or had a new baby (adoptions too, as they are still tired and adjusting).

I am a "senior citizen advocate" volunteer. I have been for about 15 years, maybe more. During that time I have had 4 seniors. My present senior (and friend) is 95 years old. We have been together for five years now and I love her.

I volunteer for ChemoAngels, which you've all heard me talk about.

We adopt patients going through Chemo and send them weekly gifts, cards, etc. via postal mail.
There are a few of us here who are ChemoAngels.

We both volunteer at our local schools, helping with whatever they need. We also volunteer to help at athletic events.
DH also volunteers at the local fire dept and is the current asst. chief. He is also vice president of the counties fire chief's assoc. which is also a volunteer job.
We have both coached little league in previous years.~*Michelle*~

I've been active in animal rescue for about ten years. I do some transporting, and a lot of fostering. Right now, I'm fostering a parrot and looking at fostering a dog or two. I have three donkeys, two dogs, and four parrots who were all "throw away" animals that I adopted. I used to drive between northern and southern California a couple of times a year, and I would transport animals going both directions - mostly dogs, but I did transport Cody the Eclectus parrot (who I will never forget, as he is the only transport who talked to me the whole way back), several rodents, a rabbit or two, and an iguana. Since moving out here, I've fostered pot-bellied pigs for a pig rescue in the bay area and am currently fostering for a bird rescue. Looking into working with a local dog rescue that specializes in livestock guardian dogs, as I have livestock (goats), and it seemed like a good fit. :-)

I have always been very active with both kids and school.....not only in the classroom but for book fairs, picture day, craft fairs and school play.
My dh and I have volunteered to work and set up a local gathering for a 24 hour walk-a-thon for breast cancer, we have done it the last 2 years.
Dh's company adopts needy families at the holidays, this year they were able to adopt 10 families and I did the majority of the food shopping for the families, they also got toys for the children. We spent many hours putting baskets together and getting everything ready for delivery.
I have always been active in scouting and in baseball/basketball, volunteering to be team mom or whatever they needed me to do!

I volunteer at my dd's school pta fundraisers. I'm an official PTA member and always go to the meetings! I'm very active with my daughters school!
My dd (who is 5) volunteer's every Tues. evening at the library with the youth librarian for "Bedtime Story Night". Every Sat. morning they get together, (while I pick out my books) and pick out 3 stories to read to the group, and which craft to make, then Eleni gets to read one of the stories on Tues. evening, and give directions for the crafts. She has had her picture in the local paper as the youngest library volunteer and has even won a local award.

I have recently volunteered to become a Card Angel through ChemoAngels and I am awaiting my first patient.
I knit small kids clothes that are sent through our local pharmacy to orphanages abroad.

Thanks for the post about Chemo Angels! I had never heard about it, so I checked it out and applied to be a card angel! :-) My sister is a breast cancer survivor, and I have lost both my father and a very good friend to cancer in the past, so I was thrilled at having the opportunity to do something positive in the ongoing battle! I'm going to let my sister know about it, as well. It has been about a year since her chemo, so she might be interested in giving back, or at least letting the cancer treatment center in her town know about the program. When she went there for her breast cancer, they didn't have ANY suggestions for support groups or assistance.

That's great news, I'm waiting for my first assignment too as a card angel! I had a total hysterectomy in 2004 for uterine cancer and I wanted so much to give something back for all the care I received. I think it's a wonderful organization!
