New from Israel and want to start a community Garden
I am originally from the US and married an Israeli. We came to Israel to raise a family. I have a 10 year old girl and 2 boys and 8 and 5.
I am interested in turning an vacant lot behind our house into a community garden and would love any input you can offer. I'd welcome advice both on planting/ gardening and organizing a community project.
Thanks Mary Hedly Mizra

Welcome!
Have you connected with any community groups there? I have no idea how things work outside of the US, but it seems you would be able to get some help or funding through a non profit or church group there to anchor your project.
You will have to keep us posted on how things are going.

I used to live in a downtown area of a large city. A group had purchased one city block and had turned it into a community garden, although I think maybe they either charged for you to have a plot there or there was a long waiting list! :-)
The way they did it was to literally section off grids, and each person who participated planted whatever they wanted to in their grid. I don't know if you are looking at doing that, or having each person responsible for one type of harvest, and then sharing, but either way would work, I suppose. You'd have to look and see if the plot gets even amounts of sunshine in all areas, so you didn't stick someone with the shady spot (unless they wanted to plant peas and lettuce <g>).DH aka Mad Hen

Hi Mary, Welcome!!!!!!
Your climate might be a bit different, but I suppose not too different from some of the hot dry summer, cool to cold dry winter that doesn't have too much in the way of annual snow or rain.
I live in a Canadian desert region which is hot sunny and dry for the summers and winter is moderate with light snow cover.

Hi. We're neighbors. My family and I are living in Lebanon for a year (then on to Kuwait). I just joined this last week and have really gotten a lot of good advice. Important with so many high prices here.
