DH got a new job!
And boy, did I have to ponder how fate worked this all out...
DH was unemployed from Oct 04 to Aug 05. In Dec 04 he interviewed for a job with the Boston Stock Exchange, made it through two interviews, and then the position was canceled for budgeting, was supposed to re-open in Jan but never did. He ended up landing a great job in August with a totally different company.
Two weeks ago the Boston Stock Exchange calls him and asks him if he would still like to talk to them. Now that DH has tasted unemployment, he figured it couldn't hurt. He had three interviews in a week and a half (the only candidate!) and they made him an offer last Wednesday - for 15Kyear over his asking price last Jan and 10K/year over what he's making now! We spent three days debating it (his current job is second shift so we could avoid daycare, this new one is first shift and the commute is a lot longer) and just yesterday he called them and accepted it!
I'm just thrilled that its an amazing opportunity for him, the money is great, and the fact that a company would call him over a year after his last interview just to see if he was still available. I also find it just a bit ironic that he went 10 months without a job, and now he's gotten a great offer just 8 months after accepting his last one! His current employer was very understanding and even his boss said what a great opportunity it was for him.
And as a side note: his first thought when he saw the money was "Now I can put 10% into the 401K instead of 8% and I'll still take more home!" I think I have him fully converted!
Well, just wanted to share the good news!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

That is awesome! And, what a huge pay increase. So, it looks like you'll both be on the day shift. Isn't an additional perk that you'll spend more time together?
It's amazing how you can go for months with no good job prospects then all of a sudden have so many opportunities.
Yup, looks like you've got him converted on saving money!
I think that sometimes it's good when we go through dry money spells since it forces us to be frugal. Then, when you start to make money, you end up saving more.

Woohoo! Congrats!!!
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Congratulations!!! My BF just went from 2nd shift to first shift, and yeah, you save on daycare, but no amount of money would be worth saving as oppoesd to seeing him every day!!
