Default We finally got a freezer!

I have wanted a small chest freezer for years. The way I coupon and stockpile, it is quite limiting to have only the small freezer on the top of the fridge.

Well today I became the proud owner of a 7.0 cu. ft. chest freezer! It is the perfect size for my small kitchen. We do not have a basement, or much space, period. I even got a pretty good deal on it. I checked out reviews online for compact freezers, and found that the 7.0 cu ft. "Holiday" brand freezer, sold exclusively at Lowe's was a "best buy". The regular price is $178, and if you go to the lowes.com website, you can request a 10% off coupon for moving, or home improvement. It took about a week to get the coupon by mail, but it did save me $17 on the freezer. I am so happy. The annual energy cost to run this freezer is only about $32, or less than $3 a month.

I thought about a used one, too, but with the new one being so energy-effecient, and less than $200, I think we made a better decision to buy new. Some of the older models cost much more to run, and over a year or two, any thing you saved on the purchase price would be spent on electricity to run an older freezer. Also, I had a very bad experience with buying a used refrigerator one time from some people that were moving. I paid $125 for it. The fridge was working just fine in their home when I went to look at it. It worked for about 30 days, then the compressor went out. I was out $125. I had to go buy a new fridge.

If you buy a used freezer, and it goes out, you stand to lose alot of $$$ in frozen food, too.
