getting ready to leave for a Dh's second eye surgery
Well I have my menu's and shopping list all planned for the 2 weeks in Vancouver. Well not quite 2 weeks, more like 10 days, but I'm off to cook for my beloved 89 yr old fil who is leaving for Russia with my sister in law in the last few days of our visit,
and also cooking up a storm for my son who lives in the suite in his basement.
Dh is just along for the ride (and his second cataract removal)
I hate ham but fil loves it so I got him a nice fat one which he adores, since from his Russian soul he adores and lusts after a good thick coat of fat on anything.
I shall crust it with mustard powder, brown sugar and allspice to make sweet diamonds of crusty cracklings for him.
Veggies are a challenge since ds and fil don't otherwise bother with them, so I like to shove them in --enough to make up for the rest of the time.
So creamed spinach, glazed carrots, hot and sour cabbage will be making appearances along with fresh veggies to snack on.
I do enjoy making his eyes light up and his mouth water. He is a skinny old man, and could use a few extra lbs.
unfortunately I often gain a bit so as for the goal getter club, I'm rolling off that wagon temporarily.
OOOOh and I'm taking my hour of freebie lessons on my new sewing machine while I'm down there.
so if you don't hear much from me from Monday on, I'm off in a quest-- to fatten fil up a bit before the oldest inhabitant tootles off to Russia and for dh's last cataract operation.
Dh is 20/25 in the other eye that we just got done 2 weeks ago, and he is just delighted. He wanders about commenting on how bright the colours are, or how much detail he can see now and how long it's been.
So I'll be here a day or two, then off on Monday and back in 2 weeks.
Hugs to all!

Thanks Heather.
Well I popped out to the mall as a friend gave me a heads up on a sale on some pretty spring green twinsets with pearl buttons at Tabi's (nice ladies store, great discount sales).
Enjoyed trying on, but didn't buy, and after that I went to Sears and tried on a deeply discounted VERY LOUD striped orange, coral white and lime green capri pants but they were far too blinding in my hefty size 20.
Sigh.
I love bright colours on white, it's the inner toucan or parrot in me.
So then to console my large self who ought NOT to be cooking and baking quite so much--- or wearing loud striped capri pants---
I bought another couple of books from the discount bargain bin. One on asthma by Readers Digest, another by that plus size model Elle and a third book for dd.
So I'm going to breathe easier, read more, and be a lady by not parading my flesh in coral, lime and orange stripes.
If there is a good reason to lose weight though it would be so I can wear shocking coral, orange and lime stripes.

Margery, my best wishes to your dh on his surgery. My dh had cataract surgery a while back and he was thrilled with his results. He had worn glasses full-time since HS. After the surgery, he only needed reading glasses and he does have to wear sunglasses outside. He told me he hadn't seen so well since childhood.

LOL bright colour IS good for the soul but as I read your reply Vannie, I had a sudden extra thought!!!!
I never even THOUGHT how my poor dh would recoil from the splendour that would be me in those humming and vibrating stripes of vivid colour!
Might blow out the retinas, and cause him to wonder if good sight is all it's cracked up to be!!!!
much better I don't buy those pants. (they had 2 pair in size 20, and marked down to 14.99 and a FURTHER 25% off that which takes it down to 8$!!!)
Really good quality stretch poplin too! A little shiny with that sort of sateen feel.
ROFL it's bad when the stripes sort of stretch with the fabric ladies, trust me, it's quite a sight as it eases it's stretchy way over the bulgy bits. Then the stripes narrow where I do in the few narrow bits.
Yep, retinas definitely at risk!

thanks ladies.
Just a quick update from fil's comp, dh got thru his surgery just fine today. There were some delays, a late start, etc, but it's ALL done, and he is seeing well.
I'm tired, but fine.
Sending hugs.
