Moving from Utah to California
So DH has been offered a job in Orange County California, he excepted, and in a matter of a couple days our whole lives changed. We are both excited and nervous about making such a move, two states over. He will be leaving in a month and I will stay behind for a few more months until he can find us a place to live.
The furthest I have ever had to move is 60 miles and this is going to be around 800. Has anyone made a huge move like this and if so, any tips? We have decided to get rid of most of the stuff we don't really need to take with us.
Its very exciting and scary at the same time, mainly because the cost of living is going to be so much different. Its going to be quite an adjustment, but its going to put us in a better financial situation.
I'm also wondering if there is anyone on here that knows about Orange County. We haven't picked a city to live in but it will be close to Irvine. If anyone knows the area and has any advice, I would love that too.
Wish me luck, I may need it...

i know some about the area, i live about 30 miles from irvine. to describe in one word EXPENSIVE! the whole area of orange county is very trendy, and expensive. my dh also had a pretty good job offer in OC (lake forest) close to Irvine but he declined because 1. rent is expensive 2. communting would be equally expensive. gas being at the cheapest i could find right now at 3.25 but its running anywhere from that up to 3.49.
california in general is expensive, my suggestion to you is maybe think about moving to the inland empire (riverside, san bernardino counties) its cheaper, and maybe see if dh could get a gas card from his job.
there is a plus side
1.beach ( i LOVE bon fires with some weinies and the kids)
2. plenty to do
3. no snow unless you want to go to it, and still pretty close and worth the lil drive
4. wearing shorts and flip flops in winter
5.you will be close to disney land and we get discounts, the happiest place on earth is the most expensive place on earth (con)
6. if you are interested in homeschooling OC has some wonderful homeschool groups
7. decent school district too
i could go on forever but the boys are wrestling!
