What fills the hole in your Soul?
I have just come back from the Lake District (again)
and I have to say it never dissapoints!
No matter what the weather, the scenery is always wonderful and even though we have been going once, twice or even three times a year for the last 18 years, it always refreshes the part that other places can't
I feel very sorry for people who don't get/ feel uplifted by beautiful scenery.....the Lakes to me are "Valium for the soul"!
So what (or where) fills the hole in your soul?
(For the newer members, if you go to Vacations and Travel forum and scroll through you will find pictures I posted of the Lake district......plus English Castles and other notable nice places

So nice to have you post Karen, miss you.

Young children belly laughing is the best!
Just watching the birds, chipmunks, woodchucks... so many of them sharing the same space and just live and enjoy. It's just so wonderful to watch....Birds coming back for another season to raise another family...life is good.
Oh good songs on the radio where I can sing my heart out (while driving especially) rates up there too.

I have to say my faith. There is absolutely nothing that fills the holes in my soul more than my faith. After that comes spending time out in nature, by the lake, walking through the forest or gardening. There is just something that calms my soul when doing that.

We go to Cancun every year (started going with my parents when I was 13) usually with my family and it feels like going home. Wandering around downtown. Going back to our favorite bakery or just laying on the beach with the sand between my toes. Such a relaxing peaceful place. After 13 years I'm still not tired of it!!!! DH has been 4 times with me and he loves it too!

Talking with God about the problems and delights of life as I pass thru it.
Sitting on my covered screened in back porch nestled in behind all the lilacs that screen me from the neighbors, looking out onto my back yard and seeing the Ponderosa pine at the far end of the yard beside the clump of birches and all the little plants at their base.
In that porch I see the most wonderful sunsets, and sometimes I light a few candles and just enjoy watching the sun go down, listening to some quiet jazz playing from inside the house. Last night was like that only I didn't bother lighting the candles.
Sitting in the living room at the front of the house and watching the blue spruce tree that fills the window. It's a bird condo, and at present 3 young couples just finished building nests (too far in to see) and I expect they are all expecting by now as they seem quite serious about life and living. Their chatter is wonderful to hear as a background to living.
In the winter the wind blows thru that tree and the sounds of it sighing or whistling thru the branches never fails to delight.
My house at night, from May to Sept I leave the windows open, and I can hear the frogs croaking in the pond. It's a loud chorus and drifts over from the nearby parklands.
From one corner of the living room I can look out to the park and to the rolling ranchlands beyond where the cattle graze. The sun bleaches the grasses golden most of the year, and it's a view I never tire of.
In the morning the sunrises are glorious as the sky lightens over the hill behind the cattle. Early morning is so peaceful.
When I'm out in my garden lying in a deck chair under the shade of the ponderosa tree in back, if you look right up at the needles the ponderosa needles sparkle and glitter in the sunlight. They catch the light somehow.
The little tree frog who lives under my rhubarb and croaks at night.
The lilacs under my bedroom window. I have a lilac one under the bedroom window and over by the back porch I have a white one, and a purple one. All with good scent.
The shell pink rose out front. It's a hardy rose and hasn't a lot of scent but it looks gorgeous.Last edited by canadian gardener; 05-31-2006 at 08:55 AM.

For me going to my timeshare down the Jersey Shore. We are right on the boardwalk. Very little traffic except for fisherman. I come outside to sit, look at the water and do some reading. It is the water that does it for me--I give thanks, I talk to myself and to "Him" and know that I am truly blessed.

For me it's camping with my husband and children. Because there are no electronic devices (with the exception of the TV, which is only watched in the morning to see the weather for the day) we have plenty of time talk and catch up, play board games and cards. I always feel so relaxed and close with my family after a weekend of camping.

Wow, I need this thread right now.
My clean apartment, that is a big one for me. When things are all in their rightful places and everything is the way it should be, I feel fantastic. Today is NOT one of those days, I feel completely overwhelmed and I'm on the verge of tears for no good reason. If you're interested in frugal living, minimalism and and

My faith is first, my clean, peaceful home is second. I love coming home to my 3 pups, and 2 cats and DH and sitting in the living room relaxing. Its also nice waking up in the middle of the night and hearing all the breathing (DH and the pups). I don't know what is it is about it. It's like waking up and knowing everything is good b/c we all are relaxed and breathing.

Being in Jasper, Albert, Canada....and when we lived in BC in the rugged mountains. Nothing fills my soul more than the mountains and hiking in them to remote areas.
The other thing that filled my soul was right after the birth of both my babies...that time in the hospital was so surreal. It was an amazing experience.Tamara

The nightly sunsets that hubby and I always stop and watch, even on a cloudy day we have a spectacular view that puts us in awe of how small we are.
Newborn foals, there is nothing as amazing as watching a newborn animal see the world for the first time, and watching the love in its mothers face when they see them.
Working in the garden on a hot day and knowing we're providing for ourselves, and being thankful that we CAN provide for ourselves.
A good rain storm and knowing that all are tucked in safely here and that the ground is being nourished and the crops will grow well.
Our end of the day conversations when we always talk about the GOOD things of the day.
