    Default Memory Lane

Sara's TV post got me thinking...

How about a trip down memory lane. Remember something form your childhood that isn't really done anymore?

Hey, anyone remember the tv repair man who would come to your house & fix your tv? Set up a mirror so he could see the front of the tv while he poked around in the back? We used to all sit and watch as he worked, lol.Seemed like they were at our house often back in the 60's.

Playing kick the can. We had a huge backyard and my dad had set up a floodlight...so we could play after dark. We'd have a whole yard full of kids over and play until we were finally worn out!

    A blast from my past.....

I remember when someone had to go outside to turn/move the tv antennae so we could get a different channel. Someone would stand by the window and watch the tv and yell out when the reception was good.

Now, we just flip the channel thanks to cable.

    Great idea, Darlene.

My dh and I were talking about 'the milkman' (don't ask, lol) the other day, does anyone remember having milk delivered to their house?
Or diaper services? Ewww, I would hate that job.

That is so funny Michelle.....We done that too!! I had forgotten all about it!!

We used to also ride on the tailgate of my uncles pickup truck (with out seatbelts :surprise: ) That was so much fun!! We would try to set or feet on the ground while it was moving... Also we would try to jump off right before he stopped because we thought it "made" us cool.

We also had milk at school in those little paperboard cartons that would taste fuzzy if you didn't get it opened right.

Drive-in movies. I saw Star Wars and Jaws at the drive-in. There are a few left here and there, but none near where I live. I miss popping a huge bag of popcorn, sitting on the hood of the car (the old cars could support a bit of weight), and the speakers on the windows. It was fun to be able to go to a movie in my pj's.

The popcorn made me think - Jiffypop Popcorn when we went camping. It came in an aluminum "pan" that you could jut hold over the campfire (or stove, if you weren't camping). I haven't seen it in the store in many years - I guess it's all microwave popcorn now.

Staying out until the street lights came on in the summer time. I don't know anyone who would let their child do that anymore, including me. It was common practice when I was growing up.

We still get our milk delivered every morning LOL!

I remember the pop (soda)truck that came round every week and we used to buy a few big glass bottles from him - if you returned the bottles the next week the man gave you a penny for them

They still make it Sara.(buy mine at walmart) I bring it with me when I go and spend the night and keep an eye on my sisters kids. "Aunt D, did you bring the jiffypop?" "Sure did!" The magic of jiffypop is shared with another generation.

Thanks for the stories ladies, keep them coming I know we are all enjoying them.

    Thanks for making me smile!

Yep, remember kick the can, the milk deliveries, playing outside until the street lights come on. And catching lightening bugs in a peanut butter jar.

    Oh what fun summer memories!

Remember loving carrying around those little boxes of animal crackers & getting excited over the prize in the cracker jack boxes? I used to throw away the peanuts, lol. At the time I didn't know why they "ruined" the box of goodness with those silly things.

LOL My fiance, who is from Dublin used to work for the milkman there when he was a kid. He would go around and pick up the empty bottles for people

I remember most of the things you all are talkuing about. Now, for most kids it's all about the video games and TV. It's sad that alot of kids don't get out and actually PLAY anymore.
