What's the one thing that you do that is the least trouble
that saves you the most money. For me it's just not giving a care about all the latest and greatest of everything. I am just me, don't have to have the newest, most up to date of all the latest rage. And I have a lot of patience when I'm wanting to make a large purchase.

Also, I don't mind buying used....like clothing, shoes, household items...I don't expect "new" everything and I am happy with what I can afford.

Besides what's been said, I prepare most meals with others in mind and you can bet most of it was bought on sale .I am very good at using up leftovers and it's a rare thing indeed when something in the refrigerator gets thrown away. We don't waste food here.

I tell every one I know that I am looking for something. Like I have been telling people that I need a new dryer. Lo and behold someone I know has a brand new dryer that they are selling. (parents passed away). $100. Also, today friends are bringing over shorts and jackets for DH. He is so hard to by for because of his small size (29 inch waist) that when people with bigger boys have clothes to give away they think of DH

The thing that saves me the most money is simply staying home. It's hard for me to run into a store and pick up one needed item- I often end up with extras.... or we wind up picking up fast food along the way. I've come a long way with this habit and don't drop $30+ every trip anymore, but, still, it's a few dollars here and there that really do add up. So, if I stay out of stores, I don't spend anything.

Not having a car.
I don't have to go to work part time to pay for a second vehicle, the cost to liscence it, fill it with gas, insure it, pay for the purchase cost, the maintenance work on it to keep it running.
and the second best thing that just keeps on passively saving me money was the choice we made in buying our house.
We bought near dh's work (8 minutes away) and 5 minutes from shopping, dr, church, vet, etc. On a major bus route. That just keeps racking up the savings down thru the 7 years we've been here. Less gasoline to get around period.
and the house we bought is also smaller and more energy efficient than most. We took 5 minutes to consider (as we always do when buying a house) what the previous owner paid in
HEAT
LIGHT and
TAXES AND UTILITIES! Amazing how those 3 items add up if you don't purchase wisely.
Our house is smaller so the taxes are lower but we bought in a good neighborhood, near but not right beside a good school so that the resale value will continue to stay high.
Just by doing these things once and once only I continue to rake in the savings passively without going to ANY extra trouble ever again.

third thing is again relating to gasoline. I menu plan. It's partly to save me time and my own energy but it racks up some pretty impressive savings on the grocery bill but ALSO ON GASOLINE to get back and forth to the store!!!!
I plan because having the one car I do a circle route on payday starting with my cheapest overall store, my "base of operations" then cherry picking the savings all the way back home.
By shopping for groceries once every other week with a single top up midway for milk and produce I save my time, energy, grocery money, and also gasoline.

I LOVE freecycle!
and consider it an ART to find the nice stuff at the thrift stores~ thats where I got most of my diapers for my girls!!! for pennies!!
love finding the $1.00 off coupon on the produce or the meat! and the discount produce or baking rack at the big grocery store!!
I challenge myself to see what I can get for so little!
its a game!
