    Hmmm . .. lots of things. . .

larger sized clothing 12 month to 2T

Snugli baby carrier- so I could hold my baby and still do housework, etc.

wind up swing--- I never had a high chair or play pen, but the swing was a God send those first few months with each child.

diapers, formula if she wasnt breast feeding.
I love the snuggly for the front, and couldnt do without my playpen and monitor.
For her, bubbe bath set, maybe her favourite shampoo, anyhting that would relax her.
I got a basket of fresh fruit from hubbys work, loved it because never have time to eat, and then she's snacking on good things all day, and giving her more energy!!! Best gift inthe world.!!!

Board Books, One of my librarian friends gave me several board books. I have read to ds since before he was born.
My sling was also a great gift. I don't think I would have thought of it on my own.
Last, a CD player for the baby's room. We listened to music all the time and still do. Ralphs World, John Lithgow, Kathleen Gipson. CDs also make a great gift.

My daughter loved the breast feeding pillow. Not only did she use it for breastfeeding, she used it to lay the baby on the couch to keep him from rolling and she even used it herself to catch a few winks. Alex is almost 9 months old and she still uses it even though she's no longer breastfeeding.

    a filled diaper bag
i purchase whatever diaper they have registered for (so far noone has registered for the fancy pants $50.00 ones) and then fill it with the things they need to take baby out and about and a few other needed things: bibs, burp cloth, wipes, A&D ointment, small bottle of powder, pacifer, one or two bottles, an outfit if i can find a good deal on one. the only thing i don't put in is diapers, but i do put in coupons for them. the other needed things are a bottle of baby wash, shampoo, and baby wash cloths. sometimes i put in a toy. if i have had enough warning about the shower or even the pregnancy, i'll crochet something.
i've been surprised once about one baby so i didn't have time to make something. i bought a couple of teethers and baby's first doll instead that time.

i would have to say i received alot of great gifts, but i would have to say the best ones were diapers. that saves you sooooooooo much money in the long run (even a few sizes bigger are great).
