Question This is probably a dumb question.

DD is going into 1st grade. She went to the same school last year. Do I need to go to the school and register her? Or is she automatically registered?

I think it may vary by school. All the school districts we have been to, we did not have to re-register them every year. I think the only time that re-registering them might be necessary is if it's a private, perochial, or magnate school. Or if you are in an area where you get to choose which school your child goes to regardless of what district you live in.

You could always call the school. They do keep someone in the office (at least, all the schools I've been involved with) part time in the summer.

In our district you have to re-register between Kindergarten and 1st grade. Otherwise you don't have to anymore until high school.

In our shool district you have to re-register them every year. I'd call and check to make sure.

In our school district we do not have to re-register them when they transition from kindergarten to 1st grade, but it would be best to call and find out what your district requires.

i had never heard of having to re-register each year. that's new to me. here you just register them in kindergarten and that's is as long as you don't move. if you move you have to right a letter saying you are moving and your child will no longeer be attending that school. they help you figure out what school your child will go to and send their records there. then you have to go register with the new school, but that's the only time you would have to do that here. i'd call the school and find out. if there isn't anyone in the school this time of year there should be a recording telling you when they will be back in the office for the new school year.
