    Smile Getting to know each other: What era would you most liked to have lived in?

    If you could choose any era, including this one, which one would you choose and why?

    I would loved to have lived in the 1940s and 1950s. I love the family oriented frame that the world was in then. The world just seemed to be a happier and safer place then and kids were able to be kids and not be exposed to all manner of adult based themes and innuendos by just watching television or even picking up a newspaper. The government was respected and family values were the norm in that era.

    What era would you choose?
    Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations.” --Henry David Thoreau

    1870s. After the Civil War, but still in the period when women were ladies and men were gentlemen.

    Probably the 40's....I like pretty much everything about that era. Things just seemed pretty simple....and I love the fabrics and clothes, houses, etc....

    My dear departed sister asked me that once. I told her I would live in no other time than now. In too many times and places (even today) women were treated like property at best. Way too much misogyny for me.
    “When you get to the end of all the light you know
    and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
    faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
    you will be given something solid to stand on,
    or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

    “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
    there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
    bribery and corruption are common; children no
    longer obey their parents;
    every man wants to write a book and the
    end of the world is evidently approaching.”
    — From a translation of an inscription on
    an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

    God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
    courage to change the things I can,
    and the wisdom to know the difference
    .

    I too would have like to be a pioneer. To settle this county would have been such an adventure! Or the 1880's when my great grandparents came here and settled in northern Wisconsin.

    I think the early 1900's and the 1950's would have been great. I would like to visit the late 1800's too.
