I'm New here...
Hello everyone,
My name is Andrea, I'm 38, and I work for a major hub airport near Detroit, MI as a Human Resources Supervisor.
What brings me here is the interest in learning to be frugal. My husband of 14 years was laid off in December of 2004, and we have not been the same since. With over $100,000 in credit card debt and one income of $52,000 per year, there was NO way we would have ever been able to repay our debts. The interest ALONE on our debts was over $2,000 a month! My mom and dad loaned us the money to get out of credit card debt which has put a mild strain on our relationship so far, but it was very helpful and I will be forever grateful. I have now signed up for Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University at a local church to help drive home some of the principles in the book. The class starts in September. My goal is to get out of debt and become financially free. Do you all have a particular plan that you follow? This whole experience has been very humbling and I want to be diligent about getting out of debt as soon as humanly possible.
Anyway, I am kind of rambling...that is a little about me....I can't wait to get to know everyone!!!
Andrea

I got out of debt using a combination of Mary Hunt's method and what I've learned about Dave Ramsey from this site. Have fun, this is a great site for learning!

Welcome to the site. You'll learn tons here. This is one of my favorite websites ever. I used to listen to Dave Ramsey on the radio. I'm thinking of getting the Total Money Makeover book. Good luck with it all.

Hi Andrea,
I have never enrolled in Financial Peace University, but I love to listen to Dave Ramsey on the radio and have read "Total Money Makeover". You are on the right track with this and I want to say welcome to FV. It's a great place to learn and share and make likeminded friends.

I'm new here too!
Hello everyone-
My name is Renea and I live in Kansas. I am married with 2 boys. I am currently an LPN finishing up my last semester in nursing school. I will be finished in December and I can sit for my RN boards after the first of the year. Money is going to be tight since I have to stop working full time to finish school and I would love to find new ways to save money. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Renea

Thank you all for the very warm welcome! I am trying to find my way around the boards and all...
I had some good news this morning, and that is that I made a mistake on my original budget plan. What happened, though, was I accidentally deleted or did something to the excel formula making it look like we were $300 in the hole each month, when really we were breaking even. Now I just have to figure out where out of the budget I can take money to try and get some debts down and save $ for our emergency fund. So, things aren't looking as bad as they did yesterday and I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I can cover all of our monthly expenses. Now, to get the grocery bill under control.....
