Sliding Glass Door...

I'm not sure what section to post this in, so I'll put it here.

My DH and I are building a house and there is a sliding glass door in the dining room. I just wanted to know if any of you have ideas for window coverings, besides vertical blinds. I really don't want vertical blinds, but am at a loss for other ideas.

We had those and they did not work well with the dogs. We may do the roman blinds made out of fruitwood. We have them in the living room and the are great.
I really love the look and they were pretty cheap! I think they were 20.00 per large window.

can you get the kind of horizontal blinds made into the door itself?

Do you need privacy? You can try the window films for privacy and then just frame it with a valance or panels on the sides, out of the way. This would eliminate the need for blinds or sheers, and you could have privacy and a view. You could also use something along the lines of a shoji screen that could be folded back when you needed to use the door. I also have a friend who got swing-arm curtain rods that make moving the panels at her patio doors easier. She got them online.

On our property here each unit has a sliding glass door (except mine, I have a garage instead). I have seen some beautiful film on some of the windows. Then others have put up drapes over the windows and blinds.
