I wish we had a small county fair out here. Unfortunately I live in Los Angeles County so you can imagine how many people are at the fair. I just don't go any more.

When I was growing up, I lived in a small town in Ohio and I went to the county fair every year. I won a first place trophy in the science fair. I always loved looking at all the science displays. I also loved the food and seeing all our neighbors and friends.

I love the competitions and crafts. I haven't been to a fair in a few years now because, dh has a clam bake we always attend the same weekend as our local fair. Maybe we will do both this year.

Lori in Bradenton,.......Have been to the Perry fair many times and love it also. What is it about fair food, LOL? You can now buy corn dogs in the grocery store, but they always taste better at the fair! Probably because they deep fry them in fat, , but man are they good slathered with hot mustard!!! Ummm, ummm, ummm

We are gearing up for the fairs right now. The Mountain State fair begins Friday in Asheville. Then Wednesday our Ag Fair starts here in town.--No rides or anything at that one (love it). Then we will go to the NC state fair which starts Oct 13. My daughter will be showing cattle in all but the Mountain fair and I will be working with the Quilt guild at our local fair.

How neat that your daughter shows cattle, we have a lot of friends who's kids show all kinds of animals at the fair, both 4H and open showing (anyone is elegible). We don't show our minis there because they'd have to be there all week and that's a lot of stress for them/us and also because they use a draft horse judge and most of the minis shown are pets of the draft people, if we won we'd be considered a bit snobby for bringing our horses (they're more refined, top stock) and if we lost wellll, would be more than a little embarassing for our guys to get beat, lol, besides I'm just NOT that competitive with the animals, would rather stay home and play in the manure with them, lol.

I would love to go to a true small town(county) fair.. Here in Eugene, it is very commercialized... There is still the animal, textile, grange, floral, canning and such, but it is just tooo big any more.. To top it off it is very expensive to take four kids... Any way I envy you who have that small town(county) fair experience.. I always thought a fair should still be similar to the movie "State Fair". I love that movie...

I haven't been to a fair in a long time. I may go to a couple this year, just to see what the ones here in Florida are like. Frugalfarmwife, I LOVE your avatar! Your horse is beautiful.

Aww, thanks, that's Oreo, she's all of 22 inches tall right now, going to stay TINY, and you can't see it but her eye is ice blue.
