Default County Fairs, our social event of the year, lol

Our fair is coming up this weekend and it's the HUGE social event of the year for most of us farm folks. Hubby and I are showing veggies, hay and antiques this year and really enjoy the competition!

We also love to pig out on fair food for the week, gyros, elephant ears, french fries, sausage sandwiches,Lerchs doughnuts (best doughnuts on the face of the earth!) yum! We budget this as a vacation and go all out.

The biggie for the guys is the tractor/truck pull, lol, I end up with ringing in my ears for days afterwards if I go. And they usually have GREAT entertainment, last year we got to see Josh Grayson (American Idol runnerup, the marine) and Eddie Money! No one exciting this year though.

And this year we get to introduce a young man from the Bronx to a county fair, bet it'll be a whole other world for him!

Do you go to your fairs? What's your favorite thing? The animals? The food? The craft/4H/FFA displays?

I love our fairs! We usually go to our local county fair and then the Illinois State Fair as well. My favorite thing by far is the food. Elephant ears, steak sandwiches, lemonade shakeups. Yum!! I also like looking at the animals. I'm jealous of the 4H kids!

OI love the fair too, we already had ours here right after Canada day!!! I love the best in Animal showing and crafts. Kids get to pet them all, they enjoy that and watching people eat the most food. We dont do the rides , too exspensive.

Love the county fairs. We are going to one tomorrow night in a neighboring county. Our county fair is the last week of September. My favorite by far is the food! I usually come home stuffed from trying to sample too much of it.
My fav is the grilled sauages with grilled onions and peppers.

You know I love going to the fair....just wish my DH and DD liked it as much as I do. And it is also the social even of the year for the farmers and kids around here. So many people to see and catch up with.Just wish our county fair allowed adult participation the same way as yours does....

C'mon over and go with us! You'd have a great time! I can't believe you don't have adult participation at your fair:surprise: We have huge amounts of floral displays (my best friend shows flowers, wreaths, etc) grains, dairy and beef cattle, even open horse and sheep shows. Ours is one of the largest ag fairs in the country and we have a HUGE 4H attendance.

I can't wait to sink my teeth into a gyro!

We go to the AG fair every year in Tifton, Ga. We stay at our favorite hotel overnight and make a weekend of it. Love to watch the herding dog trials, tractor pull, and the food of course! Hubby enjoys looking at all the farm machinery, and I love to sit in on the canning, baking and quilting judging. This year, I bought a corn shucker & creamer.

Hey Marshhen we drive up from Bradenton, Fl to the Georgia state fair at Perry in October. Its one of our weekend getaways.

Here in Fla. our countyfair is in January and it will and has rained every year on opening day! Usually too cold to ride many rides but the exibits are always good. I usually enter something in the baking section. Then we hit the State fair in Tampa in Feb. usually rains then too. But always worth the trip. I enjoy the crafts and quilts and eat my way throught roasted corn, sausage with onions & peppers, strawberry shortcake, elephant ears with cinnamon. oooh I'm drooling on the keyboard.

I LOVE the fair. My kids and I do something a little different though. We go two times.

The first time, we go during the day, right after school, and the goal is to spend absolutely NO money. (There is always an afternoon with free admission). On that day we eat free samples at the booths, pick up all the freebies from the displays, sign up for every single contest, pet the animals, and see all of the arts and crafts and veggies and stuff. Sometimes that is more fun than the money spending day.

The second visit is when we go and get the ride-all-day tickets. We go to spend on that day. We buy lots of junk food and ride all the rides, and the girls have an allotment to play some games as well. It is a wonderful time!

We have a weekly pass so will be there just about every day, I'm gonna be one tire puppy by the end of the fair! It's actually a great deal, it costs $10.00 for the pass and then you can enter as many exhibits as you want so we're going to have a lot to drop off this friday for judging.

I'm going to be putting a lot of miles on my feet
