This may sound rather contradictory, but I love being home. I don't really like housework, but I like working away from home even less, so I would say I am happy.

I have been a SAHM for about 7 years now, ever since we found out we were having DS#2. I love it, wouldn't have it any other way. I love being here when the kids go off to school and when they come home. I love keeping my house neat and tidy. I love spending my days with our 2 year old son, although trying at times. I love cooking and baking for my family. I love to clean, and I love to have a clean house. There isn't much I don't like to do around the house, with the exception of the yard work...which is hubby and oldest sons job.
I feel I am fortunate to be able to stay home and take care of my family.

I have been both a working mom and a SAHM. I love the things that I do here at the house. I wish I had even more homemaking skills - but I come from a long line of women who worked outside the home and did not have the ability to pass along alot of the homemaking skills to me. I am having to teach myself.
When I stayed at home with my first, before I went back to work for three more years, I didn't get into a lot of the homemaking stuff. I didn't firmly grasp all the jobs that as a mom and wife I can perform for the benefit of the family. I thought my education was going to waste. This time around I figured out that for me being home isn't just about laundry and cleaning. I am responsible for the family accounting, purchasing, and general operations. I love to cook and enjoy experimenting in the kitchen. Cleaning, isn't so much my thing - but mainly because of the frustration factor of picking up behind three little ones in the house - so our place isn't a show place, but comfortable for us. I want to learn to sew more than just hemming and buttons. Each year I get a little better with the garden. The more I learn, the more I enjoy being a SAHM. It is exciting for me, and the best job I have ever had.
I don't ever want to go back to work full-time out of the home if I can help it.Amy

I am currently working. I will say that I really used to not like homemaking (I always felt the pressure that my place never "measured up" to anyone else's) but since I started using the Flylady system, I don't mind it so much. I really wouldn't go so far as to say that I enjoy it, but I don't mind it at all and I can take more pride in my home.

I love it! But it always was'nt that way! I used to love working and was only satisfied with working! But since ds #2 came, i LEARNED to enjoy homemaking. I love to cook, clean, take care of kids etc.... I use to think these things were mundane and basic and as a woman I did'nt work outside the home to feel useful! Now I love being basic and I have thrown the "gotta have it all lifestyle to the curb". It also helps because I have a very frugal supportive DH! He's my King of the castle
(don't everyone go offand throw up now)
My motto is don't follow what the world is doing, find your way as long as it involves God.

Wow this topic hits close to home right now. After 15 years of feeling like I wasn't pulling my weight I am starting to see what a gift I have been given to be a sahm. I am seeing that there really isn't enough time in the day even when not working outside the home to get it "all" done. I am seeing that for years I wasn't giving my all b/c I always felt like I should be earning $. Lately I have been giving my all guilt free. No I do not enjoy everything I am doing but I am so grateful to be able to do it in a much less stressfull environment than many Moms. I finally realized being a "homemaker" is enough. It is a wonderful opportunity to grow spiritually and intellectually. I have decided to enjoy it day by day and not worry about weather I will have to work at some point. I have to say I love having a pretty put together house on a regular basis also. I believe the chaos of not having that effects everyone emotionally etc...

I wish I could be a SAHM. The 12 months that I was on maternity leave were the best 12 months for me and our son, and we were a healthier family as a whole. Now I feel as though I am missing out on everything. I watch the other mothers in our neighbourhood going for walks or enjoying playdates while our son is at daycare and me and DH are at work. I'm not saying staying at home was easy, but it was definitely more enjoyable than going to work all day. I envy all of you SAHMs
