How FUN!!!
So far we've had the BEST time this year on vacation and we've stayed home! Our fair has been GREAT! We took a 2nd in antique clothing with an outfit that my mom made for my brother and mom is BEAMING. Also took a second with our sweet corn, hot peppers and okra, I know there was a third but don't remember what in.
But, the MOST fun of all! We're a mid sized town in Ohio and have a very unique private college with quite an eclectic staff and students. My mom has an apartment and has recently rented it to a man that's finishing his doctorate here and they really want him to stay here, he's from the Bronx and has NEVER experienced small town life. Hubby and I took him to the fair and we had the BEST TIME! Showed him all the local color, the livestock, veggies, antiques and the most fun, the tractor pulls, he LOVED IT! He and hubby hit it off amazingly, discussing jass music for hours, and intercity life (hubby is from Cleveland) It was so refreshing to us to see the fair from an outsiders eyes and watch him enjoy it.
He's also coming to Thanksgiving here and going to visit beforehand, he wants to see how veggies are grown and how cattle are raised.
It's So fun to meet someone from a different backgroung and enjoy such a refreshing conversation!

Congrats!
Glad you had a great time. With all those ribbons, you will have to build an addition to the barn to house them all... psst... with all those left over veggies... I can think of a few hungry people with watering mouths...
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

That sounds like a blast! I have lived many different places and done a great deal of traveling, and every time I try to immerse myself in the local ways. I am glad to see that this new friend is doing the same. So many people go somewhere new and different and look down their noses at it, or treat it condescendingly, and that is no way to live and learn. He sounds like an awesome guy.
Congrats on all the ribbons -- fairs are so much FUN!!!! Ours is next week - can't wait!

Thanks everyone, and we're STILL having fun! I went in early yesterday to help my vet and his wife and son show their mini horse, it was so fun and CUTE! The son Marshall is 8 and was SO NERVOUS, it was his first show EVER! And mom and dad were just as nervous, lol!!! We got them all set and calmed the nerves, Marshall was so CUTE in the ring, so serious and correct, he did everything JUST RIGHT! It was so FUN to watch! After he showed he just glowed and giggled, he took a 6th with his mare Orange.
And then we went back in for dinner and talked and talked, ran into tons of friends and caught up on the last year!
Oh, and Raymond (the young man from the Bronx) is STILL talking about all the fun and is going back to the fair with my mom on Weds! And he's applying for the job here at the college!

6th place is awesome for a first show! Please tell Marshall congrats from us all! Your friend Raymond reminds me of my neice's friend Razz, from England. Razz and Chantell have been pen pals for years, and two years ago Razz came for a visit during Thanksgiving. We took her to her first turkey shoot and she had a blast. She did finally win a turkey, and she even helped me cook it for Thanksgiving dinner, along with the dressing, pecan pies, and giblet gravy. LOL, I think though, her favorite thing was the boiled peanuts. I lost count on how many she ate!
Sounds like you all had a fun week. Congrats on the ribbons GF!

My best friend and I are stopping to see Dr. Mike and Marshall today, I took pictures of him showing and printed them out for him to put up at the stall, Gail has made him a special ribbon to hang. LOL, we WERE tempted to loan him my one stallions Reserve National Champion sash but thought that would me to much, lol, we wouldn't do that!
