Thankful
this morning, at 4 a.m., someone hit a lamp post with their vehicle. the lamp broke near the base and smashed through a store window two doors down from my apartment. the gaseous substance used in the bulb ignited when the bulb broke and set the clothing display in the store window on fire. at 5 a.m. the local volunteer fire department came pounding on my door, evacuating my children and i, and our neighbours. it is believed that alcohol played a part in the accident causing the fire. the store was completely gutted.
today i awoke to shouts and bangs. i hustled my 13 and 11 year olds out onto a dark, cold, wet street when it was still dark out......and thanked God that no one was hurt and that everyone that lived above and beside the store was alive and well to watch the sun rise today.
i've read enough in newspapers, seen enough on the news, heard enough tales from other folks to know that we were very lucky today. for this i am thankful.
i am even thankful for my son's whiney voice after we shuffled back into our apartment when he asked... "do we reeeeally haaave to go to schooooool?"

That must have been so frightening for all of you! I'm glad everyone involved is okay (albeit a little sleepy!)

So glad that you and your sons are ok. Things can be replaced, but not people.

Something to be thankful for indeed.

I would be thankful also! Thank goodness no one was injured or killed! It is true, things can be replaced, people can't.
