Hair Coloring?
So I colored my hair with some Clairol Nice and Easy (permanent color) last May, and it turned out pretty well. My hair is dark brown with some reddish highlights. I'm starting to get a little bit of grey. The roots coming in are not too noticable but the gray frizz is showing up. I'm scared to try to do the roots, and was thinking of just doing my whole head. People say that I shouldn't do that, that it will cause damage. So,......how soon is too soon to dye again? What would happen if I used a semi-permanent dye right now? Help? (Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.)

I dye my hair every six weeks or so. I have no major damage. But doing your roots may be the way to go. If you dye your whole head the bottom could be darker.

I used to dye my hair every 6 to 8 weeks, all over - I took a break due to $$ - but I never had an issue after all these years. ??
on second thought - I also keep my hair short, so I don't know if that makes a difference?Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

I would use pretty much the same color as I used before....so you would just recolor your whole head of hair every 6-8 weeks?

I use a semi-permanent every 4 weeks (Natural Instincts) I do the roots first for 15 minutes then pull color through for the last 10 minutes. Covers my grey (white, blinding white actually) perfectly.
FrugalWitch
(PS) I use it on dry hair, the intructions say damp hair but I never got enough coverage that way

About every 5 weeks. My hair is only about 2.5-3 inches long. I try to just touch up the roots, but the stuff ends up everywhere. My hair is very healthy.

Thanks for the replies! I'm thinking of using L'oreal Preference, same color.

Hi, i am a hairdresser, and if you are using a different brand then you should do it all over your head. If you use the original color, then do roots for 15-20 min on roots, and the ends for 5-10 min. Since it has been since may, you shouldn't have any damage, and it will have faded quite a bit. Unless,,,,,,you perm also, then you may have some damage. Just be sure to condition, condition condition. Even tho you are using the same color, each brand is different, and can differ in shades.
any more ? feel free to ask!!!

I have colored my hair every 6 weeks for over 20 years and it is still healthy. I color all my hair to the ends each time. I try to stay with the same brand and color. I have gone to a shade lighter in the last couple of years because I have gotten more gray and I like the slightly lighter color as I get older. I just deep condition once a week and use a light conditioner every shampooing and my hair feels great and looks very healthy.

Thanks! I ended up coloring my whole hair with Preference cream, pretty much the same shade as before, maybe a bit darker. I think it's OK, but maybe would like just a bit lighter next time. I'll probably be able to wait awhile as it's very close to my natural color, unless the grey frizz starts to bug me again!
