    Cool Oh, I'm so embarrassed

Yesterday I felt awful-- sick with a cold/sinus thing-- and didn't do anything but the bare minimum around the house. So, the newspapers are piled up on a chair, there are toys on the floor, mail piled on the counter, etc... just lots of stuff needs picked up.

Today I am dressed in DH's old sweats and a ratty old sweatshirt-- clothes I would never wear in public or if I was expecting company. I am doing deep cleaning upstairs- cleaning out the storage room. I didn't pick up downstairs before I started upstairs- figured I'd get to that tonight while watching TV after supper.

So, what happens? A knock at the door... and a detective is here from the police dept. where DH is trying to get a new job. He's here to do a "home visit".... I had no warning or idea this was even possible. He was a very nice guy, and actually declined to come in, just visited at the door for a few minutes and asked me some questions...... but, still. Of ALL days, why did he have to come today?!?

On a brighter note, I'm sure as a police detective he's seen MUCH worse

Aawww, I've had almost the same thing (not a detective but some other unexpected guest(s) ) at the most inoportune times. Sorry,

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

It's kind of a running joke at our house. I'm a real neat freak...but some days (usually Saturday) I'll get sidetracked helping dh in the yard, or ...whatever, and the dishes don't get done, the house is in disarray, and sure enough..Company shows up!!!

I guess I just got to the point where if people see that I am not the perfect housekeeper I don't get too worked up anymore. We're all human and it happens.

Are you sure your visitor was who he said he was?

I really don't know anything about the police system, but I know in foster care that a home visit involves a tour of the whole house and takes about an hour.

    Hoping, I'm wrong...

Was the blood spatter visible from the door? Could he see the dead bodies poking out from under the sofa? Gee I hope he didn't look in the deepfreeze cause on CSI that is always a bad scene! Now that stuff would probably disturb a police officer!

If your house was messy and you weren't too dressed up, I am sure that is minor compared to the other scene I described -- now don't you feel better!

I like to tell people who visit "you came to see me not my house". A friend gave me that line years ago and I use it often.
