Default HELP! Skunk and now...Mothball smell!

We've had a family of skunks living somewhere near the front of our house all summer and the smell kept getting worse and worse. We finally called the humane wildlife control a few weeks ago and they set up traps and I think (hoping anyway) that they all have been caught. Anyway....my stepdaughters bedroom is right near where they have been living and it was smelling awful. My neighbor gave me some mothballs to put in there, but now it just smells like a combo of skunk and strong mothballs My stepdaughter is coming for visitation next weekend and I have to get the smell out of there! I've been opening the windows in the room everyday, lighting scented candles and incense in there and also spraying Febreeze on the carpeting and it still reeks!

Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of these awful smells?

My question is did they live under the house? Near the house? etc...If the skunk sprayed the wood underneath the house I am not real sure what it would take to get rid of the smell, but find the source first. Then go from there.

You could just tell her that her mom was in there. I'M KIDDING!!!!!!

Seriously though Kathy ask some good questions, did they spray near the room, on anything specific? There are a few odor neutralizer products out there, Nil-odor comes to mind (from many years ago working at a pet store) Other things, baking soda on the carpet then vacuum, dryer sheets near the window, vinegar.

Hope they got all the little critters out of there for you, luckily that is ONE critter I've not had to deal with here on the new farm, no woods near the house thank goodness!
